Not sure if this is covered in the manual or already a thread:
I was wondering if there is anyway to export your crates/playlist to another machine. I figure you would have to keep the same directories in you file/folder structure.

Not at the moment. It could be coming in a future update though.

Use iTunes to create your playlists, it has it's playlists in XML structures which are pretty open.

so the actual txt files for each crate arent saved in a folder? i know in FS i could save certain folders and it would have the stripes and crates.

SSL also has it's own crate structures saved. But I find working together with iTunes an easy way. The integration with SSL is very good.

I have not use ITunes yet but last night I was able to record around 40 pieces of vinyl into my lappie.....i just wanted to make sure that life gets easier after this.....also has anyone tried controlling a cd inserted into the pc's cd-rom via ssl thru the vinyl

LoLyfe, yeah, my CD-Rom even managed to play two tracks from the drive at the same time, backspinning/cueing/scratching, no problem. Unfortunately as SSL doesnt buffer the entire song it puts a lot stress on the CD drive.
bartaug, can you maybe explain in a few sentence how I can copy my local iTunes folderstructure and XML list, to an external drive and use that on a different machine?

Use iTunes as intermidiate. I did a quick test, you can change the process where apropriate:
- I created a playlist in iTunes on my studio PC
- Exported this with iTunes export to 'test.xml'
- Copied the file test.xml on a USB stick to my SSL PC
- Imported on the SSL PC iTunes the test.xml file
Now I can play this playlist on the other PC's iTunes. The file names of the files are the same, there in different directories and the layout is different so I assume iTunes uses the filename to match the lists. Now that the list is in iTunes you can use it in SSL of course.

After exporting the iTunes file to "text.xml", how do you copy your files, from where to where?

You mean the mp3's? They already are at both computers, copied them over the network after digitizing them.

Hm, but assuming I would like to copy my entire library onto the USB stick (biiiiig stick ;-) ), how would that work then?

You only need to copy your mp3 file tree to the other computer once (or when new stuff is added). From that moment on you only need to exchange the iTunes playlist.
Or copy the mp3's to your external FW/USB disk and do the same thing with the iTunes 'export lib' function.

Yes, but do I have to use the same folder structure?
I am asking because I want to achieve following:
-I have iTunes on one machine, and my whole library is organzied with iTunes
-I want to use my library on a different machine, but I dont want to copy all files from my library to the other machine, but I have an external drive, which I could use.
-The other machine has iTunes as well, but I dont want to mess up the other library.
I am asking this because I ran to a similar problem just a while ago, I wanted to make the other djs library visible to my machine, w/o having to copy his library to my machine, but I had the possibility to use an external drive.

AFAIK iTunes only has one, system wide library. Maybe you could rename/move the others machines iTunes lib first and then import/read the one from the external disk.
