When I play video some of the makeing popping/cracking/delaying/noice ever 4 sec.

1st
When I play older videos, videos I have converted from flv to mp4. and flv it makes this popping cracking sound an repeats through whole song. its not in teh audio or at least not in the wave form like a curpt file is. I have the fast mac pro 2.5. i have over 5gigs free, I have 4gigs of ram.

2nd
When I first turn click on the video tab to turn on video in Serato it doesn't always work the first time, I will have to minimize my Serato, right click the video icon in my dock, click quit then the video turns back on, I have done the same thing to fix it when the video drops out on one side for some reason. so you don't have to reboot Serato just the video part cause video is a totally different program.

I have mpeg's that wont load up, why could that be?
What is the best format for video as of now, I think its avi, but I'm not sure'
also does anyone know of a good place(free/good quality/easy place to download/torrent) for music videos?

If you play these videos in another program (eg. QuickTime) do you hear the same audio defects?


That sounds odd. Which version of Video-SL and Scratch Live are you using?


It would be good if you could give some more info on these files. Could you please download movieinfobatch (found here -> www.serato.com [click link]), take a read of that article and post the info for one of these files into this thread :)


By "best" do you mean best quality or best performance with Video-SL? If you mean the latter we recommend an MP4 file with H.264 codec and an average bitrate of 2000kbps.

Is that the audio bitrate? If so, that's quite low! Can you please attach one of the files you are having this problem with to this thread (using the "Attach A File" button above the reply box) so I can take a look at it.

You are not going to like this answer, but the real fix for your problems (plural not an accident) is to do some basic research/learning about properly encoding videos. The guide posted elsewhere on this site is a good start.

Transcoding Flash videos just seems like a really terrible idea, for numerous reasons.

I'm fairly new to video myself, so I can appreciate there's a lot of information to swallow/digest/apply. But if you do things right you end up saving yourself a lot of ongoing trouble.

And by the way, a lot of people consider CAPS-LOCK kind of rude.

It looks like you can only do this with Handbrake if you use the command line. If you're interested in this, I found this thread on the Handbrake forums -> forum.handbrake.fr (click link).


A high kpbs rate means better quality, and applies to both video and audio. Where are you getting your kbps values from?


I'm afraid you can't "up convert" files. Once quality is lost in compression, it's gone forever. You'll need to re-encode from the original source.
