I'm very worried about this, as I have tried everything to try and work out what the problem is, and it appears to not be software related.

SL1 box was working perfectly last night, but when I came to plug it in this evening all I could hear was a high pitched whining noise coming from the speakers *without* SSL even loaded.

I'll run through a list of observations:

When I plug into my laptop, I receive an error from windows saying that the USB port has exceeded its power usage and is disabled. This doesnt happen when on external power.
When plugged into another computer SSL exhibits similar problems, but no dodgy noise is generated. It almost sounds like it is picking up background hum of hard drive from laptop.
When plugged in SSL does not pass on any sound signal through to the mixer.
The blue light on back of SL1 box is on
External power light is green
The mixer is definitely working correctly - I have tested Phonos and Line In directly.

Any ideas as to what the hell has happened?

Thanks!

Hello aSine,

Just so we're clear.. are you able to get the interface to show up on your computer at all?
If it doesn't show up on your computer does it show up when you plug into a different computer?
Are you plugging the SL1 into a usb hub or splitter?
If you unplug all other usb devices will the hardware then show up?

Are you hearing the actual control tone from the SSL vinyl/cd?

Do you have the 'line' outputs of the SL1 plugged into line inputs on your mixer?
If so, are you listening to those particular line inputs?

If you put the virtual decks in INT mode will it pass audio?

Let me know and we'll go from there:)

Hi Zach,

Quick question. When I plug a USB cable into the SL1 should I hear any noise coming from the SL1?

Such as a whining/pinging noise?

And when I say 'coming from the SL1' I really mean literally from the box itself, and not as in when it is plugged in with RCA cables by the way :)

Hello aSine,

Interface shows but now sounds comes out apart from jibberish.

If it doesn't show up on your computer does it show up when you plug into a different computer?
Serato is detetced fine. I've tried on to computers - the laptop outputs the most disturbing high pitched squeaks and what one can one describe as farting noises

Are you plugging the SL1 into a usb hub or splitter?
No.

If you unplug all other usb devices will the hardware then show up?
The hardware does show - it just doesn't output anything.

Are you hearing the actual control tone from the SSL vinyl/cd?
No.

Do you have the 'line' outputs of the SL1 plugged into line inputs on your mixer?
If so, are you listening to those particular line inputs?
Yes.

If you put the virtual decks in INT mode will it pass audio?
No.

Hi,

Do I just send the SL1 in a package or do I need to put anything else with it?
aSiNe 1:03 PM - 20 November, 2009
And its just out of warranty - apparently you only get 2 years in the UK?

The SL1 is all they will need.

Sorry your unit is out of warranty:(
Good news is the repair shouldn't cost too much.
aSiNe 4:33 PM - 20 November, 2009
Hmm I'm not sure about it not costing too much :)

£60 per hour labour + £30 mail + parts ... ouch!

I've just received my box back - apparently they replaced the main board.

Any idea what could have caused this?

power supply? shorted out by something? wear and tear?

Happy to hear you got your unit back and its working.
I'm not sure what could have caused that but its definitely not a common problem and I doubt you will run into it again.
Plugging a wrong power supply in the unit could have fried something. I'm not saying that caused it but as long as you continue to use the proper power supply I think you'll be good.
