Hi timbo slice,
If you open Finder and go to Music -> iTunes do you see the iTunes Music Library.xml file there?

This will be the problem then :) This is the file that Scratch Live reads to get your iTunes library information. iTunes should create this automatically, which version of iTunes are you using?

yes that is my problem. I can't seem to find an .xml file anywhere.. and i can't get itunes to create one. is there a specific process that will force itunes into creating one that contains my current library? I am running itunes 9.0.2. However this problem has persisted since the original itunes 9.0 was released. i've also tried reverting back to an earlier version of itunes (itunes 8) and have had no luck.

Try opening iTunes, make a new playlist, then quit iTunes - this should force iTunes to make a new xml file. Please let me know if that works :)

If you open iTunes, go to Preferences -> Advanced it will show your iTunes Music folder location. Can you please type that EXACTLY into this thread :)
Also do you have the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" options checked?

Thanks for that :)
Are you able to attach your com.apple.iApps.plist file to this thread? You can find that in ~/Library/Preferences/

Hey timbo slice,
Can you please open Finder and go to ~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/iTunes Library 2009-11-02.xml and check the "date modified" of this file?
Also in the same folder do have a file called "iTunes Library 2009-11-02" that DOESN'T have the .xml extension?
Finally if you go to the ~/Music/iTunes/ folder is there a file called "iTunes Library" (also without the .xml extension)?

i can't locate an xml file anywhere.
there is a file called "itunes library 2009-11-02" located in ~/music/itunes/previous itunes libraries/previous itunes libraries.
the most recent "itunes library" file is located in ~/music/itunes and is dated 2009-10-19. This file reflects any changes i make in itunes in the date modified (that is, if i make a change in itunes, it shows the time i made the change on my computer.)

Interesting. According to the plist file you attached earlier iTunes seems to think that it's creating an xml file in the ~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/ folder.
I've found an eariler thread you started regarding this issue (www.serato.com) and there was a suggestion in there that Andy made that might help remedy this situation:
If you now have a valid database in the main folder (date/time of "iTunes Library" updates when you change something), try this:
- Close iTunes if it's open.
- Delete the XML you made but leave the "iTunes Library" database where it is.
- In Finder, go to your <home>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist and rename it by adding a dash or two to the end of ".itunes", before ".plist".
This will make iTunes open as if it was run for the first time, apart from the fact that there's already a library there.
If this all goes wrong, quit iTunes, delete the new plist file that gets made when you run iTunes and rename the old one back to what it was.
- Now run iTunes again and answer "no" to all of the questions the wizard asks about finding your music etc.
- Close iTunes and see if the "iTunes Music Library.xml" files gets generated now.
If that worked, you'll need to go back through the Preference menu inside iTunes and set things up the way you used to have it.
If you feel confident are you able to try this out? If you do, please remember to follow Andys instructions exactly.
Failing that I'm afraid there's nothing else I can suggest. As it is an iTunes issue you may wish to post on the Apple forums and see if anyone has a solution.

This really is the last thing I can think of that might help, it's quite a severe operation but it sounds like the only option:If you now have a valid database in the main folder (date/time of "iTunes Library" updates when you change something), try this:
