Do you have the MIDI Start button set to Start? Its at the top right.
Also what are you using for a MIDI interface?

Yes I do have the MIDI start on. I'm using the M-Audio Uno MIDI to USB cable. Do I need anything else? Before I got my 700, I was using the AKAI MPD24 as a MIDI controller. And THAT ..was easy to assign. All I did was hit the MIDI tab in serato, click on the knob, slider I wanted to assign then just move the knob, slider or button i wanted to associate with on the Akai and it worked immediately. I thought the DJM was gonna be that simple. Obviously not. I'm so dissapointed.

I dont think its your mixer man, Im running an 800 and its just as easy as your last setup... Try pluging it all in, starting your mixer (with MIDI on) and then starting your computer and SSL.
Also make sure your plugged into the MIDI out on your Uno.

ScottyOhh! is right... its a simple setup as long as your mixer is talking to your computer.
Try downloading and using this program -->www.snoize.com to see if your mixer is even talking to your computer.
If it is, getting it mapped to SSL would be the same operation as when doing it with your Akai.

Hey, I think you have to be running SSL 1.9.1 and VSL 1.1.1 to use anything other than the TTM57SL to control VSL...

Ugh!!! I'm so frustrated. Here's my setup... Macbook Pro 13" 2.53 ghz with 4GB of ram. Running with Leopard 10.5.8 . I'm using ScratchLive 1.9.1 with VSL 1.1.1. and Just got a shiny new DJM700 yesterday. I just downloaded that MIDI monitor program and as far as I can see, anytime I move a fader or button, it registers. But when I click on the serato function that I want to use, it DOES NOT turn GREEN to show that it was Mapped. HELP GUYS... I'm ready to chuck this DJM out the window (NOT REALLY..j/k! lol.. Aside from the MIDI issue this mixer is HOT!!!)

Try this:
Shut down SSL.
Open the ScratchLIVE folder located in your Music folder on your internal drive and rename the Midi folder so it reads 'MidiOLD'.
Now re-open SSL and try to map your mixer.
Any luck?

1.9.2 just came out. Try updating to it.
Once updated, go to the setup screen and click the Midi tab.
Do you have any presets listed there?
Try creating a new preset and then try mapping.
Just so we're clear.. as far as how your mapping your mixer... your clicking the midi tab, clicking on the parameter your wanting to control, at which point the brown dialogue box appears, and then your moving a knob or slider on your mixer to map that parameter?

Updated to 1.9.2 I created a preset called DJM700 and STILL no luck. And yes I'm doing exactly what i'm supposed to be doing as far as mapping. Serato is being stubborn! doesn't want to turn green!

8:22 AM - 23 October, 2009
Are you sure that SSL 1.9.2 is opening? I had the same problem and Serato Help told me to open the setup page and look at the bvottom left corner, if the numbers between the ( ), should be 19222...If not then the shorcut on your dock or desktop are calling for SSL to open a priviously installed version. If this is the case delete your shortcut, go to applications and start SSL then go to your dock and Control+click the SSL tab and select keep in doc...
Hope that helps!
Dont be discouraged, you have a nice new setup and when you work through this< an you will, your gonna love the new mixer and VSL!

Have you tried using the other 5-pin midi cable of your UNO (just in case)?
What information does midi monitor give you when receiving info from the DJM 700?
Are you using a USB hub or splitter with the UNO device?

I always rename so I'm sure I'm using the latest version Scotty. and as for Shaun, yeah i tried both IN & Out.. Nothing!! No hub or splitter. I did some research though and found out the Uno has some compatabilty issues. So I returned it to guitar center and ordered another brand on Amazon. I'm hoping this will solve my problems. BTW.. has ANYONE had success with the DJM 700 and MIDI? Everything I read is always about the 800. Just curious.
And also, thanks for trying to help out. you guys are great!

Give the below workaround posted by another Scratch LIVE user a go and see if it helps resolve your problem:
Turns out I had an old midi program installed in my Midi1 slot. All I had to do was run the Korg UNINSTALL for their driver, but all I uninstalled was the corrupted device in Midi1 (left Midi0 alone, it was a High Definition Audio Device, I'm guessing the sound card) and then plugged the Korg back in, and reran the driver install.
In case you've ever screwed with old Midi stuff and forgot about doing it, this could be the problem. Mine was MapleMidi or something along those lines.
Hope this helps someone that was as frustrated as I was!

I just bought the Korg nanoPAD and am using it with Windows Vista SP1 (I believe) and couldn't get SSL to recognize it no matter what I did. It would at different times recognize that there was a midi device plugged in, and at times it wouldn't, but it would never let me assign. I also used an external midi program and found out that the Korg was sending.Turns out I had an old midi program installed in my Midi1 slot. Ok Guys I'm at my wits end with this whole situation. Just got a USB Midi cable from Amazon. (didn't really have a name brand.) Hooked it up and it IS sending signal to my laptop (I can see it in MIDI Monitor) but like before, NOTHING will map or turn "green" in Serato. As far as that previous workaround, I've never used any other MIDI program or device other than the AKAI MPD24.. and that Works perfectly, but I'm trying not to bring as much equipment out these days. My DJM700 purchase was an ONLINE one..So I definitely don't want to go thru the hassles of returning it!! I'm thinkin I just should've gottten the DJM-5000. It would have fit better in my 19" rack mount DJ coffin. And FYI..Pioneer does not make a rack mount kit for the 700 nor do they plan on it according to the rep I just spoke with... Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have any other software such as Ableton Live that you can test your midi connection with?
Did your Uno come with an installation cd and if so did you use it to install drivers?
If so, try uninstalling the driver via the device manager.
Once uninstalled unplug the Uno and then plug it back in only this time don't use the install cd that it came with (if it came with one).
Once Windows installs its drivers for the device try mapping it in SSL.

I have a Macbook pro Zach. And I returned the UNO. I never did use the Install CD cuz it wasn't neccesary for a Mac. And No I have no other programs except Virtual DJ and I'm Clueless how to MIDI map that. As far as my coffin. I'm trying not to spend money on another one. I've got one I've had for a long time. It's custom with external plate mount for power, XLR, etc. I love it. But that's the least of my problems..lol

Ah.. oops! Sorry:)
Weird.. Macs handle midi way better than PCs for the most part.
Should just be plug and play?
What are you using for a midi interface now?
I wasn't suggesting you buy another coffin. I think they might have the rack ears your looking for. I looked around on their site and didn't see them but I would contact them directly and ask them.

Hi B Smoov
i'll throw this one out there...
check to make sure that your DJM is transmitting on MIDI Channel 1.
From the DJM Manual:
[MIDI Channel Setting]
The MIDI channel (1 to 16) can be set and stored in memory.
1 While holding the MIDI START/STOP button depressed, set the power switch to ON. • The display will show [CH SET] and the unit will enter the
MIDI setting mode.
2 Rotate the TIME dial to select the MIDI channel.
3 Press the MIDI START/STOP button.
• Records MIDI channel. During recording of channel, [SAVE] indicator flashes.
• When recording of channel is completed, [END] is displayed.
4 Set power to OFF.
Cheers

Thanks 4 the heads up Zach. I'll try calling them, but to my dismay, I don't think the 700 was meant to be "RACKED"..But I've already got a "workaround" for that.
As far as my interface, it didn't really have a name. Just a LONG silverish cable with USB on one end and MIDI in/out on the other. In the middle there's and indicator that has a red light for USB signal and A BRIGHT blue blinking light for MIDI signal. And it too is sending all sorts of signal to my laptop. (according to MIDI monitor)
Sean. my DJM IS set to MIDI Ch1. I even tried the other channels (if that even mattered). I'm actually very MIDI "Challenged"... But a simple thing like trying to map Serato is not an issue. I'm starting to feel like a failure here. :(

Hm... Try this:
Shut down SSL if you have it open.
Unplug any external drives you may have plugged in.
Rename the ScratchLIVE folder located in your Music folder so it reads 'ScratchLIVEtest'.
Now open SSL.
You should have a completely empty library.
At this point try mapping the 700.
Any luck?
Note: To get back your original library just shut down SSL, delete the newly created ScratchLIVE folder inside your Music folder and re-name the ScratchLIVEtest folder back to its original ScratchLIVE name.

I know you say your not too good with midi stuff but at this point I think the only option is to try to get it to work using a different program.
Have you tried contacting Pioneer's support?
I don't think this is an issue with SSL not reading midi.
If it were then I doubt your other midi devices would be working.

Gentlemen, I really appreciate ALL the help and support you've given me. You guys are awesome. But I've decided to send the DJM-700 back and get the DJM-5000. It's an even exchange according to the online vendor I purchased it from. I'm not a quitter by all means but I realized the 5000 would be more practical for me anyway (PLUS it's rack mountable) :) I'll let you guys know the outcome of my "MIDI" tales on that one when I get it. Thanks again guys. Your da Best!!!

OK Fellas... Just got my new Pioneer DJM-5000. It's GREAT. Not sure what was going on with my previous DJM-700, but I assigned MIDI to serato on the 5000 within seconds. AND, the sound quality on this mixer is incredible! The built in Maximizer is a definite plus. I'm running Serato on Channels 3 & 4 (line input) and regular CD's on Channel 3 & 4 (CD input). I'm using Channel 2 for another DJ software program, MEGASEG in which I'm using the 5000's built in sound card. Channel 1 I've assigned some MIDI functions for Video effects and library scrolling. Wanted to assign some buttons for cue points but all the buttons are ON/OFF type so I would have to hit it multiple times. Kind of a pain. so I'll use the laptop keys for cue points. Other than, I'm totally happy with my purchase. Thanks again guys for all your support.

Ok guys I'm having the same issue here. I'm running windows vista on a dual core AMD machine with 2 gigs of ram, trying to hook up the DJM-700 to my laptop via the Midi-Sport Uno midi interface and have been unable to connect at all. I am able to connect my AKAI MPD24 with no problems at all but the DJM700 is not giving me any response at all. I don't know what to do!

Hey Kam, As u can see through my earlier discussions, I had the SAME problem. I ended up sending my 700 back. Not sure what the issue was but just like you, my MPD24 worked like a charm but the 700 didn't do ANYTHING. I'm thinking there's a a bad bunch of 700's out there with MIDI issues and we just happened to get two of them. I replaced mine with the DJM-5000 and I LOVE it. I know..I know! it's a 19" rackmount but that is what my coffin was made for anyway. MIDI is a breeze setting up and the sound quality is SUPERB. Wasn't much of an "effects" guy so I'm not really missing it. Hope you have better luck with your 700 than I did!!

Hey guys. I must say im not surprised to see this thread. I have owned a DJM700 for around 12 months and have had no luck at all getting the MIDI to talk with Serato.
It works with Ableton and a MIDI 'check' program on my lappy but not with Serato.
Really dissapointing but what can you do :)

So far one issue ive been having is with the stability of my midi controller. Saving your midi setup works awesome but halfway through my 2 hour set the controls stop working. Meaning, the button i press to trigger an "echo on" will at one point lose that ability. The knobs that i assign to the loop rolling(?) will work great but then all of a sudden it randomly gets assigned to another function. crazy right.
I was having similar issues where MIDI functions would stop working after a while. Kinda frustrating. Also, I assigned 2 faders on my MPD26 to control pitch in INTERNAL mode, but all of a sudden, My CHANNEL 4 fader on on my DJM5000 Mixer is ALSO changing the pitch.. Ugh!! How can prevent (aside from turning MIDI OFF on the mixer) but then i'm unable to crosfade video. ANY IDEAS ????????

Interesting I'm also gonna try the Edirol UM-1EX midi controller w/a 700... now has anyone tried VSL hooked up with the Pioneer VSW-1? It's a video switcher and looks easy as hell. If a midi usb controller won't work for me I'm def getting the VSW-1 cause it's that much worth it. The link is below. I'd really like to hear if anyone is using the VSW-1 with their djm mixers. Most importantly a 700.

Hey Tecniq.. sorry I got no experience with the VSW-1 but if u just want to switch between videos in VSL, save yourself the $400 on the switch box and just use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard and set the Transition setting to a slow fade effect like Lumina key, Melt, Grid Sequence, etc.. It works great and looks cool as hell on the big screens!
