The audio playback is dropping out ..what's wrong?
I am using Denon 5500 and CDs only. Right in the middle of a pack crowd on the floor the music just drops out. I have to hit the Start button on the CD Deck over and over. At one point it was happening every 30 seconds. How do I fix this. I use an external drive so my computer is not loaded with a lot of music. I have 2 G memory. My PC is running great (like new) I play for a night club and I need to fix this probelm ASAP!!!
Do I need to cleans my Serato disc over a long period of time that are inside the deck? I have checked the scope views. When the cd , the circles are round, and the value in the bottom right corner is 100%. I have increased the USB audio buffer size to the Max. as well.

Hi DJ Cavon.
Have you made sure you are doing everything here:
* Always plug directly into the computer’s USB port, not a hub.
* Check that you are using a ‘good’ USB port. If you are using a Macbook Pro, this can be the left port or for models with two USB ports on the left and Macbooks this will be the port furthest away from the screen.
* Switch off Bluetooth, wireless network and unplug any wired network connections.
* Switch off screen saver and set sleep mode and hard drive sleep to 'never'.
* Ensure you have ample room left on your hard drive (this is approx 10% of your hard - both internal and external).
* Close down any other software, including antivirus software or the like.
Can you please let me know your computer specs too (make, model, CPU, RAM, hard drive, any other USB devices used).
Do you always eject the external hard drive? Or do you just pull it straight out of the USB port?
Cheers.

1. I do not turn off my Norton when I am playing in the club.
2. I do not eject the drive when I disconnect it from the port. I just pull the USB out of the port. So does this mean that the external drive is corrupt and no good now that I am currently using? I do have a back up drive with the same music that I have not used yet though. I can still read all the music that is on my original drive that I am using. And it does load into the crates.
3. I do plug right into a Hub. I have 2 ports on side of the Notebook and 2 ports on the back of the notebook.
4. I do not have blue tooth but I do not disconnect for the wireless network that is in the club wile I am playing.
5. Serato is the only thing I may have open, but sometimes I use Microsoft Word occasionally to write down any request for songs from my members in the club i.e Birthdays, songs they want to hear etc etc.
6. I use 1 USB for the connection to the SL 1 one for the external drive and one for the mouse. When playing. So I am using 3 out of 4 USB ports.
7. Now what about the disc you never answer about that? I notice that sometimes while I am playing I see the mode automatically change from REL mode to INT mode all by itself. And then when that happens I cannot load any songs. The highlight bar just skips all the way to the bottom of the crate sometimes. Then when I take the disc out and clean it would stop and work fine for a while, then it starts do the same thing again later in the night. Why does it keep doing that?

Hi and thanks for getting back to me I have no idea what is wrong and I have to play again this Friday. I have had this problem since I wipe my drive clean and reinstall my XP operating system and all my programs again. I had done that because my operating system was corrupt and my notebook was not recognizing the DVD/CD-RW Drive (D) drive on my notebook. So I reverted back to the manufacturer state it was when I first bought it. I had done a back up of the system prior. I did update all my windows on the internet after I done. The computer is running fast and like new now and the DVD/CD Drive works now so it was successful.
I am using a PC Dell Inspiring 6000 Intel(r) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60 GHz 1.60GHz, 1.99GB of Ram. It comes with 54 GB Hard Drive. I am only using 14.6GB internally. The external drive is 500 GB WD Drive and I am only using 89 GB of external drive.

I also notice that when I am in REL Mode the Serato doesn't automatically go to the next track when it is connected to the SL 1 Serato Box. The track only automatically plays the following track when the hardware is disconnected. That was never the case before..has that changed in the new 1.9.1 Version? Or what can I do to get that auto play feature back again?
Because I like to walk away when playing slows songs.
Thanks DJ Cavon

You need to disable your anti-virus when playing, this can cause the dropouts you describe, as well as other dropouts and freezes.
You need to always properly dismount the drive (eject) after each use, otherwise you can cause data corruption, or damage the drive, or problems with your system. Get into the habit to do so. You may be damaging your system and data this way.
It's hard to tell if it is corrupt or not until something goes wrong however, so I can't say for sure. But if nothing is looking wrong now, then make sure you just start ejecting properly. Maybe make a backup of all your data to be sure or simply get another drive to use as your primary drive.
Always plug your SL unit directly into your laptop, not a hub. Anything else you can plug into a hub, but make sure that it is powered, otherwise you can encounter USB issues if there is something trying to draw too much power.
Again, just disable this.
Try to figure a way around this, or use Notepad or similar as it won't use as many system resources, Word is still a large program, even if 'all' it is doing is writing text down.
If you reach the end of the control CD signal (15mins) it will go into emergency internal mode. Get used to rewinding the control CD like a normal CD, otherwise you'll encounter this.
This is because you are playing Track 2 on the control CD - this is the track select tool, which enables you to scroll through your crate using the CD (or vinyl if using turntables). Just make sure you aren't using this track, and always get the CDJs to have Auto-Cue on (so the CDJ doesn't just start playing track 2 automatically.)
Make sure you have the 'Autoplay' feature enabled, this is in the top left hand corner of the Scratch Live main screen.

Thanks for all you help I will do all of the following and I was use a Back Up 500GB drive that I have not used at all. I will also set the Denon Mode 5500 mode CD Decks to "single" mode instead of "cont" mode so that it doesn't go into the second track.
Again do you need to consistly clean the control CD or not?
But one thing I do not see anymore is the "Autoplay" I do not see that anymore. Is it only visble when the hardware is connected? Right now I am home and I keep the hardware at the Club. So will I see it while it is disconnected. Because I believe I was looking for it when I was connected to the hardware I I still couldn't find it.
Thanks again

Just treat the control CD like any other CD, and make sure it's taken care of. Or download the signal from here and burn your own:

Autoplay is only visible when the hardware is connected.

Hi this was resolved however I have now moved over to a MacBook Pro 15" 4 GB Ram 500 G drive, and just I wanted to know if the same things apply for a Mac as well. As Far as having your wireless off and Bluetooth off while using Serato Scratch Live?
Is it typical that most DJ's turned that off while playing music or not? What is best I guess for SL1?

Yes, it is always advisable to follow the list I posted above no matter what platform when using any performance audio or visual applications.
If you want stability in the OS and streaming data, then turning off wireless and networks etc is a must :D
