I have a desktop that I store all my music in, and a laptop that I use to spin SSL with. My question is this: If I use an ipod as an external hard drive, will all the itunes playlists, SSL cue points, SSL gain settings, and other additional SSL file information remain on each song if I switch them back and forth between my desktop and laptop using the ipod?
desktop ---> Ipod --> Laptop (and back again) will the SSL files remain???
THANKS

I don't have an iPod, so I couldn't say, but you could always give it a try and see what happens...

Happy holidays Frank . I think SSL remember because of the song name
I have a ipod, desktop and laptop. I make beat or put song on the desk top
and transfer songs the iPod and then to my laptop to the library in iTunes.
Two Questions : does your desktop has serato too and Why can't you delete
your song out of your laptop and fill it with new stuff? When you want to put
back a song if you name it the same or don't chance it since it was in your
laptop, SSl should remember Good LUCK

Frank,
I don't use an iPod but I do use an external Firewire hard drive between my SSL laptop (iBook), and my PC laptop. I usually do all my edits, batch analyzing, etc. on my PC, which has SSL on it as well. Then play those very same files through my iBook. Because all the audio files along with pertinent SSL data are stored on the same HDD, both computers can share the same HDD.
I would imagine that it shouldn't be any different with an iPod that is set up to be used as a HDD.

Frank,
I use a similar method. Song Archive managed on desktop, DJ using laptop accessing song files from iPod.
While I know there's many 3rd party software available that will reveal music files on an iPod I have stuck to what I know works and, from my desktop's music archive, I load my iPod with songs as Data files (instead of using iTunes). Next I connect my iPod to my laptop, open iTunes Preferences' and point the iTunes Music Folder location to the iPod's file directory with my music. Then, from the iPod's directory, I load iTunes with the music from the iPod. Lastly make sure SSL is set to read iTunes library.
With this configuration everything you had as a question should work as planned.
**** extra tip ****
If you'd like to use your iPod conventionally and not soley as a Data Drive as I. For OSX users, try using Cocktail to reveal the iPod's hidden music directory. Not sure what Cocktail's PC equivalent is... Maybe some one else can chime in at this point?
Enjoy!
