Just wondering, i have an external hard drive where i keep most of my music which i use with SSL. I started building my overviews 2days ago and they've been 'building' ever since.

However last night i realised the file size was around 16mb. Today i just happened to look at it and it's now 9mb.

The only difference is that i hooked up my external hard drive to the laptop i use SSL on. Where as i was building the overviews on my desktop machine.

Anywho, my question is does the file size correspond with the amount of overviews you've built. I would have thought so and am curious as to what happened to make the file size nearly half in size?

Thanks for your time,
nelly

What version of SSL are you running?
What file size are you reffering to?
Are you referring to the databaseV2 file in the Scratch Live folder?

I'm running 1.6.1 (16108)

Do you have all your tracks in crates or reading from your iTunes library?

If so close SSL and delete the databaseV2 file.
When you re open SSL it will create a new database file.
See what that file reads.
I'm not sure why the file would go from 16mb to 9mb if you haven't taken any of the tracks out of SSL?

If i do that will i have to build overviews of all my files again? Basically i dragged all the folders from my external hard drive into the crates area when i 'imported' them. That's how i added them to SSL. Then i hooked my external hard drive up to my pc (with the same version of SSL installed on that computer) And started building my overviews on my pc.

I also found it odd that it dropped in file size. But there are a lot of files for it to go through :(

it's nearly been going for 3 days now.. i'll keep you updated. Hopefully everything should be fine.

Thanks for the quick responses btw..

No. This won't delete your overviews. The overviews are part of the tag of the actual song. Try it.

I am not sure about this, but I read somewhere there is a kind of "journalling" built into the ssl library files, so it could be that they sometimes grow, and sometimes get smaller. Nothing to worry, I would say.

I assume the overviews built by FinalScratch and by Serato are not the same overviews, right? And if so, what happens if you use the same music library in both programs? Will they keep overwriting each others' stripes, or will extended tags hold two different overviews?

Yes

Nothing. The overviews should not interfere as they use different tags.
