Hi All-

My friend and I were playing at a bar last night and I had an SSL issue.

We were playing on Technics 1200s, a CDJ-800, a Pioneer djm-600, and new Ortofons. My friend was playing vinyl & cd’s and I was running SSL 1.5 off of my Macbook pro.

We were going back and forth every 30 minutes. Everything sounded fine prior to my friend playing, but when I went back on, I couldn’t get a clean signal out of either turntable. I had to switch back to vinyl for a few mixes, while I attempted to recalibrate SSL. It didn’t seem to help, as the signal appeared muddy. When looking at the waveform on the display, it looked fatter and a bit distorted, rather that sharp and clear. Eventually my SSL signal cleaned up, and I didn’t have an issue for the rest of the evening.

I’ve played back and forth between SSL & vinyl before and haven’t had this issue. I didn’t bring a brush, so I’m thinking that it may have been an issue with a dirty needle.

Anyway-Does this sound like a familiar issue?

Hello dj Javaight,

You were getting scope views? Just not very good ownes? Yes, this is very typical. It could've been just dust on the needle or the record itself.
