hey guys. OK. Last night, 5th song into my set, the cd player starts going in reverse. left hand deck. occasionally playing forward after i pressed play then cue, but otherwise mainly in reverse. (note theat the bar above the virtual deck on screen is all red!!) I switch the phonos round but reluctantly as the player was working fine b4. so now im going along fine. But then I start getting USB drop outs and stuff!! my songs start playing slow and its all going PETE TONG!!! I carry a back up laptop so i plug it in and im still getting drop outs.
I changed my phonos over and still was getting issues.
The burning question is.... can my sl1 be f**ked
Or could it possibly be another problem??
Im recently put 1.6.1 on my laptop but am in the process of doing a complete system restore and am going to rebuild all my overviews again using v1.4 cause ive had constant problems with 1.5 up
can anyone help or suggest
Cheers

Hello Pozzi,
Did you calibrate your setup when you got to the club?
You need to do this everytime you move to a different venue.

You need to calibrate every time.
What that does is set a threshold for the ground floor noise so the needle doesn't pick up interference that will mess with the control signal, causing the track to play slow and drop outs to occur.
The other issue might be that the RCAs coming from the cd players might be shorting out causing it to play in reverse.
Have you tested your setup at home and is it doing the same thing after you calibrate?
If so I would say it would be faulty wiring from the cd player.
I'm not sure what your trying to explain here?

what Im saying is that when i calibrated.... the left hand scope was slightly out. I calibrate every time. i know this.
To re phrase. i set up as normal. calibrated and everything. I played a few songs. then for no reason the left hand deck started playing in reverse. totally bizarre. so hence, when I switched the rca connections around ie white to red and red to white... it made no sense, because it was all ok previously.
when i got a chance i checked the cabling from then cd player and it was all correct. I then put a new phono cable from the cd out to the sl1. again still, even with a new cable.... still the deck played in reverse!!!!
Having hooked up another laptop... I know it isnt a software issue. So that leaves only the SL1 or cd player. but the cd players played normal cds fine with no crackle or anything? so Im totally bamboozled

When the track starts playing in reverse, what does your tracking signal look like?
Do your scopes look normal?
What does the number say in the top right hand corner of the scope screen?
Also, are you plugging the SL1 into a USB hub?

hey zach, yeah I plug into a usb. Well when i set up the scopes they looked ok. The one thing i didnt do was look at them when it was all going horribly wrong!!! IDIOT!!
I gigged last night with a new SL1 (you never can have too many LOL!!) Which is no big deal, as if this is purely a cd errror then at least I can mix with 4 TT's OR have the peace of mind i have a back up.
Ill need to get back to you next week regarding this problem I think. Ill be in the venue again next thursday so ill set it all up as previous and see what happens.

DJPozzi,
If your plugged into a hub, try plugging it directly into your computer. Using an external hub can cause all sorts of connection issues.
Yes, please get back to us about the issue:)

hey zach,
Gigged with the exact same setup as last thursday and found no problems. Last week as discussed i did a complete system recovery and re built all overviews using v1.4 I am back running 1.5 again However have not re installed the 1.6 upgrade (this is the only change i had made to my system last week) Giving that the problem affected both of my laptops, I can (for now) evaluate that the problem is cd player related. However I will continue to use this setup and see if I have any further difficulties. Should i have any problems I will try to take a photo of the scope views should I notice any abnormality.
Sorry to have gone in a mad panic about this. As Im sure you can imagine, as a proffessional DJ working 6 nights a week, this piece of equipment is extremely important to me.
One other thing if I may..... but can you explain or point me in the direction of a thread that would help. Why is it that I can build all of my overviews in 1.4 without any freezing. yet with 1.5 I need to continually press the build overview button twice b4 it continues. All of my tracks are ripped using DB power amp. I rip at 192kbs or higher. I use mixmeister to set my bpms and mp3 gain to set my levels. I cant understand there for why some overviews build fine and why others make the process stop?? Many Thanks. Pozzi

In each different version there are slight changes to the program that can fix certain things but also throw other things out of whack. For some reason the overview builder in version 1.5 and 1.6.1 are more sensitive and corrupt files will cause the builder to shut down. This issue is being worked on in the new beta and should be fixed in the next version.

dont forget to have the left right plugged in to the left right. this will cause it to play backwords. or just internal function to escape all this cd, tt connections for smoother running
