occasionally when processing a piece of audio the audio will blank out with what looks like full scale audio on the right of the clip in mono and the right of both legs on a st pair.
I have to restart everything when this happens to enable me to use again

Hi, I am running Pro Tools 7.4.2 HD 2 on a 2x3 GHz Quad Core Intel with 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 running OS X 10.5.3

the pieces of audio are fairly small, can vary from 2 to 5 seconds on average.

If you open Activity Monitor you can see how much memory is being used - are you going over 2GB?

Hey lestacks,
There was an error in OS X that when using over 2GB of RAM there could be data corruption. This has been fixed in OS X 10.5.7, if you can I'd recommend you back up your data and try updating.
