I love my Scratch Live, it had some glitches when I first installed it, but I have been running into problems lately.
1) sometimes I just have to reboot to get some songs to play.
2) I was running internally tonight and then switched to abs. mode, songs would no longer play. Not only that, but when I would drop the needle on the abs deck, the internal would cut out. Pick the needle up and it would start playing again. A reboot fixed this.
3) Also tonight on the right deck the left channel cut out and on the left deck the right channel cut out during a mix. Honestly is sounded cool, but I wasnt trying to do it. Plus on the next mix I only had one stereo channel. It was just so unacceptable I just stopped. My flow was broken, I was pissed.
SSL version 1.2 (1218) whatever driver was out at that time.
windows XP SP2
homebuilt PC
I dont have the power adapter...
I dont play out but I do a small live internet radio show on fridays. It is just a matter of personal integrity to have good equipment that works well. Anyone got suggestions on how to get back to "good and well"

I have to ask the basic question first... what kind of sound files are you using (wav, mp3?), and can you verify that they are not corrupt in any way?
Second question... how often do you do routine maintenance on your PC (i.e. disk defragmenter, scandisk)? I read your profile; is SSL the only thing running when you're using it (i.e. no other program is running, not even in the background)?
If SSL was working fine awhile ago, but it's performance has changed now, then perhaps it's something other than SSL that's causing your performance to get worse over time (like recently installed software)? :-\

Are you running any other apps while using ssl? if so, dont.
Also you might need to check those particular mp3s with a validator to see if they are corrupt.
How much ram do you have and what are you buffer settings at?
I have had random rare problems (simillar) also. They usually have to do with "what else" your pc is doing, or how much resources it has.. I hear ya about being pissed though, i would be too

all mp3s, sometimes it doesnt matter what mp3 I use. So i think it is not likely that is it 1 or 2 broken files.
I run defrag like once every 3 months. system is on a 10 gig partition, mp3s are on 90 gig partition. so I dont think this is the problem.
I run winamp shoutcast at the sametime and iexplorer. This is not abnormal. Or I should say it has worked fine with these running in the past. I also have windows stripped down so that useless services are turned off or in manual. I used knowledgable webpage when doing this so nothing important was turned off.
I think it is possible that something I installed could have messed things up, I just dont know what that could be because I think the only thing I have installed is acrobat reader. Nothing new shows up in processes since last time.
More systems specs
AMD 2100+ 384M ram
USB audio buffer = 10 (default)
I think your right I need to run less apps on something that is so critical. I'm out of a normal job right now so money is tight for a laptop. enough of my sad stories.
Maybe I just need to reformat... uhg
I hate to say it but I feel like the original version of SSL and drivers were more stable. It just didnt have the mouse scroll, which annoyed the hell out of me.
Thanks to all

"I run winamp shoutcast at the sametime and iexplorer."
well if people r connecting to you, that is going to cause some additional processing on your pc also..
The times I can remember SSL loosing a channel on me occured while switching back and forth between apps.. like ie explorer. Im not sure why this is an issue. I agree that preventing audio hiccups is 1 thing SSL should be looking into more right now.

I send my signal to a server, then people connect to that server. I dont have the bandwidth to support people connecting to me. just 2 streams 128k and 24k.
I do tab out to check a message board, see if people like what they hear or dont like it..
thanks again.

Sounds to me like your comp is overtaxed... maybe an upgrade is in order?

you have to be kidding me. My buddy that also does an internet radio show runs windows xp, shoutcast with the 2 streams and sony sound forge all on a 800 Mhz duron. It doesnt even eat up half of the processor.
I know SSL uses a fair amount of speed, but I dont think it is enough that a processor that is twice as fast couldnt handle. Plus, all this stuff used to work just fine.
It probably has to do with something on my computer. But many other programs run fine, and SSL isnt. So what is going on?

Stone, I have a P4 at 2.4GHz and right now if I use SSL with the best performance, my CPU hits the 100% easily and often. So really, dont try to run other apps in the background esp not another real time app like a shoutcast server which needs to deliver data in real time, in contrast to other "offline" apps like a word programm. Dont expect to let run other apps, please, if you want SSL to act as good as it can, turn off any other apps.

Stone, can you run a test for us? What happens when you use SSL without all the other applications running?

I am messing around with it right now. I have SSL running and explorer and Newsbin pro (doing a download) running all at the same time. with 2 tracks playing the CPU is jumping around in the 40-80% usage (occassional 100% peaks but play back is fine). I'm trying to reproduce the problem, but since it just happens randomly it takes time. I was playing for 90 minutes before it happened last time.
is there any sort of program where SSL will log what it is doing and maybe give me a clue as to why it is acting up.

IMHO, the best way to do any effective troubleshooting is to go step-by-step:
(1) Play a long set with SSL, and have no other apps running
(2) Play a long set with SSL, and run iExplorer
(3) Play a long set with SSL, and run iExplorer and Newsbin pro...
(4) etc. etc. etc.
Sure, this takes a bit of time, but I guarantee your patience will payoff! If at any point during the above tests SSL misbehaves, then you might have found the specific source of trouble. As it is, your current methodology won't help you pinpoint anything specific (because it's hit-or-miss).
Just my $0.02

ST, you said explorer, right? Did you mean explorer.exe? Cause that should be running...
Also, I wouldn't DL anything in the background. That is like asking for trouble. You won't hear the police knocking on the door either if you're DLing illegal stuff. You know what saying?

Buy a mac? I would rather put my weiner on an anvil and hit it with a hammer. That would be far less painful.
I just need a separate laptop. This still doesnt explain why I have run for 3 hours before, running explorer and shourcast, with no problems. I have done this on many occassions.
Who says what I'm downloading is illegal?

I just ran for 3 hours, no problems. Same conditions. I did make sure I did a good hard restart first.
I had shoutcast 2 streams, SSL and iexplorer all running. I was alt tabbing around too.
I'm not sure how to duplicate the problem :|

Hmm. Anyway, I would go thru a second computer. But that's just me, you know...
Are you sure this is caused by the other programs? I suddenly got the idea that the things you experienced were caused by something else.

Was just playing for 1.5 hours. The left channel on the left deck cut out twice. The only remedy was to restart SSL. I did not restart the computer before playing. I am wondering if the program warcraft3 is leaving something in memory that is conflicting.
hope this gets fixed soon, cause it is annoying.

Was it a particular MP3 that caused the cut out? Can you reproduce it?

5:55 PM 24 December 2004
I do not know if it was a specific MP3. I doubt it but it is possible. It has not been the same mp3 every time something goes wrong. like I said, sometimes it works just fine and sometimes this happens. Very random. I am starting to think that it has to do with me not rebooting. I play warcarft 3 online all the time so it is possible that there was something left over in memory.

That is not very clever, even windows xp is pretty stable, you should always do a clean reboot if you plan on performing with SSL (fragmented memory, drivers which have been loaded by other apps and which have not been unloaded etc etc.)

How do you do a clean reboot nik39? I think I know what you are talking about but I am not sure. Please let me know.

7:20 PM 24 December 2004
Yes, restart your OS (windows), restarting SSL is not enough. After that I recommend, make two separate profiles, one for "normal" work, and one which is for mission-critical-SSL-usage, where you disable any h/w and s/w (services etc.) you dont need. There is a thread about this in the tips'n'tricks section.

yeah i know-i already have that done with the profiles-i just wanted to see if "clean reboot" was different than what restarting-i am not too keen on computers yet-thanks.

Yes StoneReign,
It sounds like you have some corrupt mp3's. I had the same problem with a couple of files and found that re-encoding them from cd using itunes fixed the problem. You should make a note of the files that caused the side to stop cause I found the problem is reproducible. To be on the safe side, whenever I encode (or 'get') a new mp3 I run it through ssl before playing it at a gig. nothing is worse than one side crashing on you at work

Thanks... I guess I will get that mp3 checker program I have heard a few people mention. Then maybe use those files to see if I can crash it again.
