better to go thru apple? or worth it via re-seller on amazon or something? i know going thru apple, you can get 3-yr applecare. or should i take a chance on amazon with a re-seller for a better model that isn't on apple's refurb site?

As long as it's an authorized dealer, you can get the AppleCare. I've bought refurbished both from Apple and authorized retailers without issues.

Yeah I've bought from apple and from ebay (not even sure if authorized re-seller) but I've had no problems either time..
