I can not conect my cdj 400s to serato sometimes and when it does connect, only one cdj functions but serato wont play even when my cdj is controlling it( when I push play on my cdj it shows on serato but it does not play the song. I have gotten a connection where everything worked but I shutdown my computer so many times to get it but now that technique is not working.
I am running a powered usb hub for my cdj's and my external drive.
I am running the Serato box straight to the port on my lap top. If anyone can help me please help I am knew at this Djing and I would really appreciate the any help

To use the CDJ 400s with a USB hub you'll need to download and install the latest firmware version for the CDJ 400s from Pioneers web site here -->> www.pioneerelectronics.com

The CDJ400s will not work properly with USB hubs if using an old firmware version.

I forgot to mention it but I already updated my firmware. I just dont understand why they work after trying a couple of times and then other times they dont work at all. I updated it to the 1.30v for the mac. I am using the belkin USP swivel hub.

Do you have access to another USB hub you can use for testing?

If so, try another USB hub and see if it has any affect.

Reverting back to 1.8.3 would be a good test, as well.
Affrex 5:55 AM - 12 May, 2009
I will try another hub and keep you posted. Is there a specific hub people have used that worked?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure which hubs have been successfully used with the CDJ 400s. Most seem to work fine, so if you have another laying around or one you can barrow, give it a go and let me know :)

Also I wanted to know if there is a certain order I should turn everything on. Right now I have my USB hub plug in an outlet and hooked up to the right usb port on the computer with my cdjs and external drive all plugged to a port on the hub. And of course Serato is plugged in by itself on the left port of the computer. So then I turn my computer on start Scratch live then turn my cdjs on plus I also tried turning them on before I start serato.

Try your setup with out the external connected.

Do this:

Connect your CDJs to the USB hub and connect the hub to a USB port (it shouldn't matter which side) and leave the CDJs off.

Open SSL version 1.8.3 or 1.9.0

Turn on the left CDJ and then press the USB button and choose left

Turn on the right CDJ and then press the USB button and choose right

Any luck?

You can connect the external drive before opening SSL
Affrex 9:26 PM - 20 May, 2009
No luck, when I hit the usb button on the left it went to pc mode but blank

Have you recently updated to the 10.5.7 version of Leopard?
Affrex 10:22 PM - 20 May, 2009
Yes sir
Affrex 10:23 PM - 20 May, 2009
But I was having this problem before I updated

Shaun W 11:19 PM - 20 May, 2009
Hmmm, the problem may have compounded with the Leopard update, unfortunately.

I've received a few calls in regards to Scratch LIVE native supported controllers. One particular guy, using a Denon 4500, is no longer seeing track info and etc on the 4500 displays. I looked into the problem and it seems to be affecting all midi controllers and how they receive information from SSL and other programs (DJ decks, traktor and ect).

Apparently, the 10.5.7 Leopard update broke midi send information. We're still looking into this and hope to have more information soon.

So, to get back to your particular issue, can you control SSL with your CDJ 400s with no track info and etc being displayed?
Affrex 11:27 PM - 20 May, 2009
No, but sometimes I can control SSL but the track dont actually play. So when I press play on my CDJ 400s it will push play on SSL but the track dont play.

Are you connecting one CDJ at a time?
Affrex 7:41 PM - 21 May, 2009
Yes as you instructed, I turned the left one on then put it in PC mode and got stuck with a lank screen after, so today I will be purchasing a different powered hub.
Affrex 7:41 PM - 21 May, 2009
Meant Blank screen

Do you have access to another Mac (with 10.5.6 or earlier) you can use for testing?
Affrex 10:50 PM - 22 May, 2009
No, and this is my first MAC. And I still haven't purchased the other Hub, I went to return the one I had at the Apple store but the ran out of the other Hub they carried.

I was able to test the CDJ 400 we have here with my Mac Book (OSX 10.5.7). Everything seemed to work perfect.

All I connected to the Mac was the SL3 and the CDJ 400.
Affrex 2:40 AM - 25 May, 2009
did u use a hub?
Did use more than one cdj?
I think my problem is probably my hub
Rane, Support
Shaun W 8:26 PM - 26 May, 2009
No hub

Only one CDJ

Definitely try a different hub and see if it has any affect.
Affrex 2:30 AM - 28 May, 2009
ok still waiting to get another hub
thankyou you have been so helpful

I am about to try my new hub right now
Before I fire it up I have the SSL box hooked up in a port on my laptop
My cdjs are hooked up to the hub which is powered. My external hard drive is also hooked up to the hub.
Affrex 9:47 PM - 31 May, 2009
I turned on my laptop with the hub and the SSL box hooked up
I opened SSL
I turned on the Left cdj
no luck
Affrex 9:48 PM - 31 May, 2009
Oh I turned it off and tried the right deck first and it worked

Shaun W 5:41 PM - 1 June, 2009
Cool, so the right CDJ 400 is working properly, but were you able to get the left deck to work?
Affrex 3:36 PM - 3 June, 2009
Yes I did but the same problem is happening again where none of the CDJs are working at all. So what I did was switch the position of the usb cords on the Hub and it worked. I havent used it since but Im pretty sure I have to struggle the next time I turn it back on

Is this the same hub or the new one you're looking to get?
Affrex 3:45 AM - 10 June, 2009
I actually got a different model but by the same company. I am still having the same problem but after I play with it a while it connects. I have another question though, I am thinking about getting Stanton's Dascratch what do you think about it? I also just borrowed my friends Korg nano but I can't get it to work in SSL 1.9

It looks cool, but I'm not sure how useful it will be as a Scratch LIVE controller.

The Korg nano pads are notorious for not working properly, unfortunately

I have the same issue and i've used 2 usb Hubs so far
Funny thing is it worked a couple times before giving me problems.
Now I only get 1 CDJ-400 to work at a time
I have to use the CD controller for the other one.
Any fix coming up to resolve this issue?
As it worked a few times before, i think we can rule out the usb hubs...
djgrial 2:57 PM - 17 June, 2009
Does this have something to do with USB bandwidth? I still have the problem and I only have 2 ports for the SL1 and 2 cdj-400

If your CDJ are having issues with HUBs, go to Pioneers CDJ 400 web web page to make sure you have the latest CDJ 400 firmware. Here's the link -->> www.pioneerelectronics.com

It must be hub related then :( Do you have access to another USB hub your can use for testing?
djgrial 8:52 AM - 6 July, 2009
I just order some high quality USB cables from djtechtools.com
If that doesn't work I'll get another USB hub
