Tracks seem to load fine, including the track overview waveform but without detailed waveforms. After that, I can't play it. I have tried playing tracks in both version 1.03 and 1.04, as well as with and without firmware upgrade. None of it seems to matter..
I'm running on a Dell laptop, 2Ghz Dual Core, 2GB Ram, Ati Radeon X1300 Mobile videocard.
Also, i'm running the tracks from a portable external hard disk (western digital passport).
I have read other people are having this problem as well, but are usually given the 1.04 upgrade as the solution. As I pointed out earlier, this doesn't seem to have any positive effect in my case.

Hi G-Bee - are you able to play the tracks using the offline player when the VCI hardware is disconnected?

Ok - the next step then is to get your hardware working... When you touch the platters on the VCI, do they turn from blue to red to your touch?
If not, you may need to adjust the touch sensitivity screws at the back of the unit. Find yourself a small screwdriver, but be very very gentle when you're adjusting them and only turn them at small increments. One the platters turn red when you touch them, try the other controls - i.e. playback etc.
Please let me know if that helps. Thanks

The platters are turning from blue to red correctly. At first, the right one didn't but after a bit of adjustment on the sensitivity screw it was fixed. The playback controls are still not functioning though.

Are the screws adjusted more towards max or min? We've found that further towards max disables the play controls. The touch sensitivity is quite touchy to start with, keep playing with them for a bit longer to see if you have any response (but again - gently).

I've been fiddling with the touch sensitivity for a while now but there seems to be no effect..

By the way, i am getting sound through the VCI when I just use it as a soundcard for my laptop, but that's probably useless information.

I seem to have encounter another problem here. When I use the VCI purely as soundcard for my laptop, I'm only getting the left stereo channel. When I listen to it in my headphones via the VCI, I get both channels.

When you swap around the RCA cables on the outputs when you're using it as a soundcard - does it switch from left to right? Or do you lose your output completely?
Aroha
10:43 PM - 22 January, 2009
Have you tried both outputs? i.e. the jack/main and RCA/booth outputs - and is the problem the same?

OK, so we're narrowing things down: have you tried powering the unit from each USB port on your computer? And as a final step - could you try running ITCH on a friend's computer with the VCI unit to see if these problems persist.
I hope we can get this sorted for you ASAP!

Is there any clue about what could be causing these problems on my laptop?
Aroha

So you've got full functionality using your desktop computer? All outputs are working, playback is working etc? If so, it could be a power problem.
Try all your different USB ports as some are better equipped at handling the current draw than others. Also you can try the thru/pc startup workaround: i.e. before plugging the VCI in, switch the pc/thru switch to thru. Once it's started up - switch it back to pc and launch ITCH. Alternatively you could purchase a power supply for the VCI.
Let me know if this works or not.

Full functionality on the desktop, yes. Also, all different USB ports on the laptop have the same effect. Thru-PC doesn't seem to make a difference. I guess i'll have to try a power supply.

Going back to your original post - when you say "without detailed waveforms", do you mean you're not seeing the Main Waveform Display?

Bought a power adaptor and it's running on it now, but the tracks are still not playing.

Hi G-Bee - is the Hardware Disconnected icon flashing above the Track Overview?

By the way, i've got the same problem on my Desktop PC with only one working stereo channel when using the VCI purely as a sound card. When in ITCH it all works fine.

When you say - when in ITCH it all works fine, you means ITCH is outputting in stereo on your desktop but using it as a soundcard is not? Have you tried another set of RCA cables?
G-Bee
1:20 AM - 28 January, 2009
Yeah i've tried two different sets, but the problem might be that i have a splitter attaced to it that converts the two jacks to one jack for my pc speakers?
G-Bee
1:21 AM - 28 January, 2009
and indeed, ITCH is outputting stereo but as a soundcard it does not
Aroha

The splitter will most likely be causing you problems with stereo output. However, this still doesn't address the problems you're having with playback.
Have you tried playing audio files which are saved on your computer hard drive, and not from your external?

Can you please go into your setup window and confirm the build number which is at the bottom left side of the screen? It will be a 5 digit number in brackets, e.g. (10429).

Hey G-Bee - I'm stumped I'm sorry! I'm going to get the developers to have a look at your problem, and will hopefully be able to get back to you on Monday. Hold tight!

Ok - a couple of other questions from our developers:
Are you by any chance running a Logitech quick cam?
When you tried playing songs from your internal hard drive - did you have your external drive unplugged?
Have you ever been able to get sound to come out of ITCH or has this been your problem since day one?
Do you have any other audio software/hardware installed on your computer and if so, what?
Thanks!

I HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM, HURRAH!
It turned out to be Samson Softpre software, which is a driver for my Samson USB microphone. After I uninstalled it, tracks are playing fine.

As a sidenote I would like to point out that I had the Samson Softpre software installed on my desktop as well and everything ran fine.

Great news - I'm glad you managed to get it sorted, and now you can start having some fun with the programme.
I have passed on all this info to the support and development teams for future reference. It's possible that on your laptop you had the driver installed to run over all ports, but on your desktop had the driver installed to run on only one port. If you need to use the mic on your laptop - you could always try installing the driver for the weakest port only. Just a thought.
Cheers
