Pioneer DDJ SR and stored loops

dj_spark 1:46 PM - 16 January, 2014
Hello,

you can activate a stored loop by doing 'shift+autoloop'.

1-
There is no way afaik to cycling thru all the stored loops :
if i have x loops stored in my track I can only activate (recall) the first stored from the controler.
Work around : I need to use the mouse and choose on the gui
Solution : use the arrows from 'shift + parameter1' to naviguate thru the stored loops.

2-
Also, we can only activate the loop, we cannot jump directly to the loop.
Work around : For now I'm forced to store loops WITH a cue point for jumping there in case of... (so old school).
Solution : the vci 380 handle this very well, may be a loop mode like this.
'shift + hotcue mode' (or any pad mode button) to add a 9th mode on the pads ?

Thanks

This is such a miss in my opinion. I like to use loops heavily, and the SR seems like a very under utilized controller in this respect. I did have the Vestax 380, and it handled these looping situations pretty well, I would definitely love to see these functions added as stated above, where we can do

1. All things looping. Cycle through our saved, activate our saved loops, create new loops and save them
2. Jump to saved loops, in effect, not only activating the loop, but warping to the loop just like a hot cue. This would help create high energy short loops, extend beginning and ending beats, skip past parts of a song that are too long, or have maybe long vocal lulls that bring down the energy, so many uses, but it's not being used.

This feature seems like such a no brainer, I was pretty floored to not see it on the SR. Can any of the Serato folks weigh in on this situation, maybe give a little insight into if this is even possible? I know the VCI 380 got a nice overhaul to work with DJ, any chance of that happening with the SR.

The upcoming flip look like I could possibly re-edit the tracks that need to and then avoid to do it live from loop to loop. We'll see...

An other chance would be to midi map all this to the buttons of the features we don't use or like on the controler.

Unfortunately Flip isn't perfect and the midi is still locked with oem controller.

the 2º options could be the best solution.

another thing: now i spend more time looking at the screen :/
vladimir prieto 10:54 PM - 20 September, 2014
looking into the manual, it says:

Quote:
[SHIFT] + press:
This will be used with future function enhancements of the Serato DJ software

(page 9)

do we have to think that those buttons (hot cue, roll, slicer, sampler) will do what we expect? i mean, walking though loop slots?
dj_spark 12:12 PM - 21 September, 2014
There have been 2 versions since, I don't think it's gonna happen.

And we need 3 behavior :
- select
- on/off
- activate & jump to

Day of glory guys !!! Seems that the 1.7.2 will have something for us...

+1 for reversing the mapping?

Want:
- empty slot press: save loop
- filled slot press: trigger/retrigger
- filled slot shift+press: on/off

It woiuld be nice to have it like Traktor. Traktor lets you save a loop as a cue point and I love that.

Serato should have the same feature!!!!!!!
Riko Roos 8:47 AM - 1 June, 2015
Yes! Would reduce the cluttered UI and remove the uncomfortable loop trigger mapping. Go Go Go!
MontyJoe 10:45 PM - 1 June, 2015
On the fly with TRAKTOR. No mappings, no shift and roll just press the corresponding pad and WHAMMMMMM!!!! "COME ON SERATO DO IT".
