I just purchased my SSL Pack that I use with my NUMARK CDX (CD PLAYER), I've installed it, it is working but I've got two major problems:
1) I've set all my cue points but I can't jump from one cue point to another in absolute mode. Please advise.Thanking ya'll in advance.

2)In RELATIVE MODE,my CD players (NUMARK CDX) do not work properly, they kinda misbehave if I can put it like that.I would like to use this mode because it gives me both vinyl control and CD control as in storing loopings, etc...in scratch live. Please advise.Thanking ya'll in advance.

3)I've built all my tracks overviews but still, SSL can't give all the BPM.I've tried inputing them manually the way it supposed to be as the manual described it, but still it won't work. The thing is,when trying to input manually, it doesnt even type anything on the screen.First, I thought maybe my keyboard ain't working but that ain't the case.My keyboard works perfectly. Please advise.Thanking ya'll in advance.

4)And finally, which mode would you advise me to use in order to get the best out of SSL and my CD PLAYERS (NUMARK CDX).Please advise.Thanking ya'll in advance.

THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR UR TIME.....DJ HOMEBOY (From The UK)

Hello Homeboy,

Cue points in SSL won't work in ABS mode.. only in REL and INT.

Also, the cue on your cd player will not function properly unless your using ABS mode.

As for the bpm of your files.. you need to make sure and choose a 'range' before clicking the build overviews tab.

If you leave this option at 'none' then SSL will not properly calculate the bpm for your files.

The best way to do this is to group your tracks by genre and drag/drop the files onto the build overviews tab.

If your wanting to bpm hip hop tracks you would set the range from 68-135 and if your bpming drum and bass you would set it from 98-195.

Finally, the best mode to play in, in my opinion, is REL mode.
This will allow you to use the cues and loops in the software which is one of the biggest advantages of using the software.

I hope that helps.

Let us know if you have any other questions:)

Thanks very much Zach's for the quickness in replyin, i definetely appreciate it. I've tried the building BPm and stuff and it has worked...Thanks you.

But The problem I Have is, using SSL in RELATIVE MODE,it seems not to be working good with my NUMARK CDX's. I thought it was the fact that, they are cd players like vinyls but what I've realised is people using SL 1200 use they SSL in RELATIVE MODE perfectly. I belive I've set evrything right already, but there is just this issue crippling me at the moment with SSL. Do my cd players (NUMARK CDX) have compability problem with SSL?? Hope you guys know what I'm talking about right??? Thanks again for time and advice. DJ HOMEBOY (From UK)

How is REL mode not working good with your cd decks?

Do you have 'line' selected as your audio input in the hardware tab of setup?
DJ HOMEBOY UK 5:30 PM - 19 December, 2008
It's working Zach's just that, when i press CUE on ma CD decks it doesn't go back to my cue point that i selected,it just stops right there instead of going back. And also my jog wheel doesn't move the track properly.it seems to be skipping kind of thing, like I'll turn my jog wheel but the track won't move and few seconds later the track moves again and stops again. And it goes like that on and off.hope u understand what an saying though???Thanks again for your time n advice.

First off... your cue on your cd deck won't work in REL mode as I said above.
This is just how it is when using REL mode.
Instead, you need to use the cues inside the software via the keyboard commands.

As for the jogwheel not being responsive, it sounds like that might be due to the cd players not being calibrated properly.
Where are your estimate sliders underneath the scope views set at?

The estimate sliders will typically jump to -72 when using cd players.
DJ HOMEBOY UK 10:49 PM - 19 December, 2008
no Zach..my sliders are around -24....but the rounds are pretty much clean and clear and they are giving me like 100%.....does that still mean that its not well calibrated yet???

Normally in rel mode,my jog wheel should turn without stopping.....what you think i should get right????

Are you sure you have 'line' selected as your audio input in the setup screen?

If so, try calibrating again. Remember the cd decks need to be paused before holding down the estimate tabs.

The sliders should jump close to -72.

I don't follow. Can you explain?

Hi there...I just done what u asked to do:
1)I have recalibrated my cd decks again and one is gone to -72 while the right one is gone around -60....Hope It's ok?? Can I just drag it to -72 straight or i realy need it to leave like that.

2)Am now able to use my keyboard shortcuts....initially i think i ticked use keyboard shift in the setup,i have now unticked and its working properly now....

3)As for the jog wheel again....same thing its still acting funny...it won't move the track back and forward straight i need to keep on doing for like 2 or 3 sec before it works...does that mean that when I press CUE (coz it stops when i spress cue) it sets automatically a temporary cue points?? Thanks again!!!

If the estimate slider is jumping to -60 then keep it there. Remember, there is a different amount of noise in each room. One cd player might be picking up more interference than your other one. This is fine, as long as you've set the threshold properly. It sounds like you have.

What mode are the virtual decks in?
Do you have line selected as your audio input in the setup screen?
DJ HOMEBOY UK 10:06 PM - 23 December, 2008
In ABSOLUTE MODE, the jog wheel works fantastically good, the wheel moves the track back and forward....Am quiet happy with that to be honest.

But In RELATIVE MODE, it doesn't....it takes little while to move the track back and forward.....Its not straight up as it does in ABSOLUTE MODE....

Yes I have selected the audio input properly in the setup screen. Its in line instead of phono....

Thank you again....

Hm.. Do you have any effects turned on on your cd decks?

Are you getting close to 100% tracking at all times when using REL mode?
DJ HOMEBOY UK 2:52 AM - 26 December, 2008
Merry christmas by the way a bit late but....

1)back to business....what am trying to say is when i move the jog wheel there is just this little gap of 2 sec max before it moves the track and when it does move the track it doesnt take it to where i really want it. i think it takes it only to where i pressed pause or cue on my decks.it doesn't go beyond that.Is that normal at all???but when i use the keyboard it takes to the cue point that i selected though.

2)Another little problem i have is, apparently i can not jump to rel mode with my keyboard by pressing F7 or F2.I have already unticked PLAYBACK KEYS USING SHIFT in setup. What should I press again...

3)Do you know any standard settings that I could use to make everything work properly with my gear???

Thanks again for your time....

If calibrating doesn't fix the latency issue then it might be a setting on the cd player?
Do you have any effects turned on on the cd player (if there are any)?

Do you have 'vinyl' mode selected on your cd decks?

As for your F keys not working.. open up your system preferences and click on your keyboard settings.

Uncheck the option to use your F keys for their standard function.

About The effects on my cd players, ain't nothing like that turned on on'em.

I don't know if you a bit familiar with NUMARK CDX, they just like Vinyl playing CD's, they have the full platter thing going on. So I use the platter for picth bending and evrything regarding moving the track back and forward.Simply put it this way...they are just like vinyl playing CD's. What do you think I can do about'em.Can you tell me the exact lattency figure that i can use regarding my cd's players???

For my F keys, I'm gonna go through the preferences and get to you about'em.Thanks again for your time and advice, so much appreciated.
DJ HOMEBOY UK 3:00 AM - 30 December, 2008
I've just done the F keys....The funny thing is in th esystem preferences they were unthicked and they weren't working in serato, i just thicked'em and they working great. Thanks for the tip though. It's good to try sometimes.

As I said above...about when I press stop in RELATIVE MODE it doesn't go back top the begining of the song as i roll back the track with my jog wheel. What i have noticed is that...it doesn't simply go back in RELATIVE MODE because the track itself in my CD player finishes and abviously SERATO can't the timecoded signal to read and it makes a stop for like 1 or 2 secs and I bring it back.

The lesson is in RELATIVE MODE, I might have to get used to the keyboard simply. Thanks again for your help.

If you have any other tip regarding all this issue...you are most welcome to share it with us. Thanks again guys

Remember.. you can't use the cue on your cd deck in REL mode. You need to use the cues in the software.

When you press stop on the cd deck and try to move the jog wheel back so you can get back to the beginning of the track, how much time is on track 1 of the control tone when it stops you from going back any further?

My guess is that your at the beginning of track 1 on the control disc. If that is the case you won't be able to go back any further.
I suggest using the temporary cue point inside the software to get back to the beginning of the track (i for the left deck and k for the right deck).

I hope that helps.
