i know it's been all over the forum before but i'm visiting family in Memphis and don't have time to search the forums. this is the mac book pro i'm looking at...
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
200GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
gforce 8600 512mb
15-inch Widescreen Display
my questions are:
how much differance this there, performace wise, between the 5400 and 7200 harddrive & how well does this exact mac work for VSL?
i know there's a search box but like i said i'm short on time and my family wants to pay 1/2 for me before i leave.
thanks in advance.

Don't know for the 7200 but with the same set up and 256mb videocard, video works really great as far

My specs are the same as the one you're looking at. Works perfect. I've even ran it for as long as 11 hours with no hiccups.

I really have not noticed a difference between my 5400 RPM internal and my 7200 RPM external. You should be good. The best part is that you can pop a new one there pretty easy.
you'll be so happy when you go to tweak it and its pretty much done when you open it for the first time.
If you ever have any questions, holler. I am no expert, but I spent plenty of time with that search box...
just repair permissions before and after installing programs, and you should stay good (disc utility)

Caffeine - easy toggle of screen settings

if you are doing the itunes thing, they just changed some things...

Return it now! Wait for the new MBP that won't have the defective GPU's... The rumor is either the 23rd or Oct 14th for release.

so after i felt comfortable with my mac i took it out for a spin at my saturday spot and it ran like a champ! i gotta say i'm a fan. it ran better than my PC (which works well for VSL) ever has or ever will. thanks to dub cowboy for the heads up on SMC fan control the computer never got above 60 C. Like we were saying after the show, it's the little things that make it more fun to play VSL with a Mac. i actually got to put my all into my video mixing because i didn't have to worry about it crashing or doing weird shit. yeah, so i drank the koolaid... and it was good.
