Broken pitch adj. in tech 1200's

Hi,
I have a pair of crappy old technics 1200Mk2, which have dodgy pitch adjustment sliders. Using SSL, I've been able to work out exactly what is wrong with them - for example, on one of them, when I move the pitch adjustment up from zero, SSL tells me it actually goes down first, and then starts going up again at around +1.5%. After about +2% they are fairly accurate. I can post full details of what SSL tells me they are for both decks in both directions if anyone thinks that will help.
I opened them up, and it looks like I can just replace the entire pitch adjustment slider. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? If this is the way to fix it, does anyone know where I can get the pitch adjustment slider from? I'd like to do it myself to save some cash, unless an expert hand is needed.
Thanks. This forum is the greatest!

when did they start making 1200's? I think these ones must be about 25 years old. nice to have a back up pair though! other than the pitch problem, they are pretty sweet. they hold their pitch at least...

Ohhh no :o ,.... don't go for 1200s.com.. I've ordered two pitch controllers on last 20th July 2004. still I've not received it. I've send over 10 mails.. try to call from my country. There poor in customer support. Finally they send a mail one week back saying they will try to trap my order. That is after so many messages logged in there web site.

if they're really old 1200s, replacing the pitch control is gonna cost you some money.
i replaced the pitch control on one of mine, and it was a really really old mk2 that the pitch control had to be special ordered, a different style or something.
replacing a pitch control is a simple job for some people, and not so simple for others.
replacing the pitch control should fix your problems for under a hundred bucks though, and they should last quite a while.

First of all, you can adjust the zero-point of your sl. there are some potentio's where you can adjust your zero-point and braking force. please wait a moment, i think i know a site where this is explained. i'll look it up!

in the document on the site mentioned below you can find how to adjust your pitch slider. a multimeter can come in handy, but you can do it by feel aswell!

last post on this topic: if you should replace the fgader, it will have the same problem except that it feels better when sliding the fader. The problem of your double zero and your pitch range will not be affected by a new fader!

listen to what martin is saying. It sounds like your zero point has come out of adjustment over the years or that the pot controlling it has died. A new fader probably won't help you, although it may be a good idea if these things are 20 years old or so!!! :-D

besides the fact that it may have become of out adjustment trhu the years it is also a fact that the factory settings technics handles are not that secure. When i bought my new sl's a couple of years ago they had a double zero too

I've replaced the pitch control slider on an old MKII before to try to fix this problem (although mine was just all non-linear, rather than having two zero points) and it did nothing. Suspect the problem is further upstream, but you'd have to get a circuit diagram for a 1200 and figure it out.
