can m4a files be played?

i have a bunch of these files, can they be used with serato? is there anything i have to do/ install to do this?

yes they're supported, as long as they're not DRM protected, for instance tracks bought from the iTunes Music Store which can't be played in anything except iTunes (apart from iTunes Plus which isn't protected).

Make sure you're using version 1.8.0 or later, preferably the latest release.
