this isnt really an ssl issue so, feel free to ignore me if you want, but its about sp2 for windows so it kinda counts
my desktop told me yesterday that it had updates ready to install and it started to install sp2 for me.... afterwards, it asked to restart the machine....i said yes
it completely crashed.... wouldnt turn back on in any mode (safe mode, most recent configuration, etc).... I spent about 4 hours today repairing and eventually reinstalling windows.... ive seen that a lot of you say youre using sp2.... has anyone experienced this? when I called the store I got the machine from, they said theyve had lots of crashes due to sp2 and most people eventually had to reinstall windows.... I figure its going to ask me to update again.... what is this? is it just me?

Well I only have this one issue with SP2 (firewire...). About your last question, I dont know if this was what you meant, but you can turn off all auto updates (which I recommend if you can take care of your system by yourself. I hate if something is done in the background and I dont know what is going on).

The vast majority of startup failures after installing SP2 are due to there being nasties (spyware etc) on the machine prior to install. It's unfortunate that it caused a failure but in this case a reinstall is probably the best idea!

thats kinda what I think happened....I probably had some bad stuff on there that sp2 didnt get along with.... I dont know a whole lot about computers so that might not make sense, but thats kinda what I figured went down

Sounds likely. Just make sure you keep your antivirus up to date, enable the sp2 firewall and use firefox instead of IE. Should keep you safe in the future :)

SP 2 is short for Service Pack 2, which is a Window's XP update/bug fix download.

....and such a Service Pack often needs at least half a year to get it's new bugs/issues resolved. So why not work with the good old SP1 for time being, where we know the hickups :-)

It has been in beta testing for at least a year... Usually that should be enough time to find bugs. But well, we are talking about MS. Most SPAM/Virus-catapults are hacked/trojaned windows machines.
