in theory, which is more 'authentic' for scratching....

absolute or relative mode? Disregarding the fact that there is no skipping in relative mode.
Or does it make no difference?

no a genuine one.
just wondered whether the fact that relative doesnt track absolute position makes any difference when it comes to scratched it terms of the audio, response etc.

Well, in relative mode you might find your sample "moving" so if you don't watch the screen you might wonder what's going on (watch out for skip free absolute mode). This happens with the instantaneous 0 velocity points (changing direction) being below the noise threshold, the software can't know what is going on, so sometimes it may keep moving slightly.
So absolute mode is more "authentic" since it will (should) sync up again if you're tracking position well enough. If your cartridges track well, and you don't thump down enough to make the needle jump out of the groove, then you should be fine... but if I was in front of a bunch of people... better safe than sorry.

yeah i have noticed the drift when i scratch as i use relative mode because of the many benefits it offers. I find my hand compensates naturally for this and its not a problem.
thanks for the response, skip free absolute sounds brilliant!!

I actually only used the relative mode just to show people that it wont skip...absolute mode is the best because you don't want to become heavy handed when you go back to real vinyl. ANd also you know..still trying to (keep it real). I have also used it when I dj'd a party or two when I dropped "Yeah" by Usher & Lil Jon...People started getting their "A-Town Stomp" on, the record started skippin so I switched to relative really quick.
