I heard that there may be problems with this if the your hard drive and serato scratch box is on the same USB bus. Any ideas? Also if your computer has multiple USB inputs does that mean they are on the same bus or no? Thanks.

I think the general idea is you want them to be on seperate busses. SSL takes up most of the bandwidth of a single bus, so the HDD will not get very good performance.

Alright so Josh once said:
"In windows the device manager will show you devices called USB hostcontrollers the amount of these listed will indicate how many busses you have (unless the somewhat unreliable "found new hardware wizard" malfuntioned)."
This is what I have. I think I may have two USB hostcontrollers.
Intel(R) 82801CA/CAM USB Universal Host Controller-2482
Intel(R) 82801CA/CAM USB Universal Host Controller-2484

Anybody knows if I do have to USB Host Controllers or not.

but basically, if everything is up and working, there should be no difference in a firewire connection vs. a USB besides that fact that you may have to use an external power supply for the USB harddrive enclosure?

I think it goes without saying that not all USB controllers are created equal. It's a shame that these kinds of specs aren't easily found when shopping for consumer level laptops...
