Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

PITCH/TEMPO SLIDER IN OFFLINE PLAYER

Sani 9:33 PM - 26 June, 2008
Its cool to have an offline player but i'd love to play the songs exactly how i would play it in a set (With more pitch/tempo) It sounds kinda regular and flat playing at normal tempo whenever i'm setting up my crates.
skinnyguy 12:16 PM - 27 June, 2008
sorry. not gonna happen.
Sani 2:24 PM - 27 June, 2008
why?
BriChi 2:43 AM - 28 June, 2008
because then you don't really need to buy ssl, you can have 2 laptops with the free version of ssl with the offline player on both and mix back and forth, it would be the same as itunes with a pitch control......AKA: Microwave
Sani 2:48 AM - 28 June, 2008
ok i understand.. but to go through all that trouble to use a computer soundcard without the use of timecode it wud only make sense they use VDJ then.. i think it adding this feature would make alot of sense to dj's who play diverse kind of music like i do.
BriChi 2:52 AM - 28 June, 2008
right, I wouldn't mind seeing in the offline player too, just for when I am listening to some tracks, but I doubt serato will do it, a lot of people would just use it like vdj, the difference is you would have to pay for vdj and not ssl if that was the case

But... how do you want to mix with only one channel (like in the offline player)?
BriChi 1:23 PM - 28 June, 2008
you would need 2 laptops, output one laptop to channel 1 and the other to channel 2, they would be duplicate music laptops. I would never do it, but it could be done. I carry 2 duplicated laptops with me now, I keep one in the bag as a backup

Why the hell would someone buy a second laptop to avoid the purchase price of SSL?
AKIEM 9:46 AM - 30 June, 2008
maybe not new
Ive got three

You wouldn't, but most dj's "should" already have a second laptop as a backup on gig. I know I keep my second Macbook in my bag all the time "just in case"

Right, but my point is that anybody who would want to use the pitch slider on the offline player to make a bastardized SSL setup would need two laptops. If they already have one, why buy a second laptop instead of the SL-1? If they already have two laptops, they probably have the coin to get the SL-1 instead of making the bastard setup.

I'm just saying that the fear of a bastard SSL setup made up of freely downloaded software and two laptops is kind of unrealistic.

to make a bastardized SSL setup

hahahaha, i love that saying

but you know people will do it.

Serato could easily make a pitch slider on the offline player pretty unusable for two-laptop bastardized setup usage by leaving out the pitch bend controls. That way you could listen to tunes pitched up or down the speed range you're going to play them at, but the lack of pitch bend/bump controls would make it very difficult to use the offline player in any sort of live application.
BriChi 3:43 AM - 3 July, 2008
hard, but not impossible, if you are good with a pitch control, you can bend by quickly moving the pitch up and down and back to a desired spot.
AKIEM 4:12 AM - 3 July, 2008
I could mix with only a pitch control and cue.

dj_penguin 4:48 AM - 3 July, 2008
How many DJs are that good at mixing with only pitch control and cue and also are so cheap-assed that they would go for this two-laptop solution instead of just buying an SL-1?

Is that number large enough to substantially impact the sales figures for SSL?
skinnyguy 11:15 AM - 3 July, 2008
many dj's started with tech 1200s. i don't recall those decks having a dedicated pitch bend control. people just did it manually. some did it the way brichi described.

any impact is an impact. people will do it, if given the means.

looking at things another way....so what's so hard about plugging in your sl1/ttm57sl/mp4 and playing with full functionality in internal mode?

I guess using your hands on the TT platter/vinyl is in effect pitch bending? the most accurate one I can think of...

Also, I remember trying out midi in offline player on a earlier version of SSL (on XP), both pitch bend and pitch slider worked, it just did not show the values on screen. I could easily see myself being able to mix with 2 laptops & 2 midi controllers this way, They've seem to removed this now, probably for that same reason, so I don't think they'll bring it back.

I think there is simply a line drawn,
some shit is just not going in the off line player.

Im just glad we have it at all.
s3kn0tr0n1c 8:23 AM - 4 July, 2008
think its bad for us that have payed for it it not to be able to use the software stand alone and mix 2 records in internal with full control.

not that id do it all the time but if i was traveling to a gig/holiday/wahtever it would be fun to mess around with...
AKIEM 3:05 PM - 4 July, 2008
no one stops you from pulling out the box on the plane
