Flying with 57sl?

Dj Mayhem 4:52 PM - 6 May, 2008
For the past several years i didnt care what mixer was waiting for me when i got into town, but now that i do video with vsl...lol. kind of more important. If its big enough, its very easy to put it on the writer. But what if you need to take it with you? anybody try taking it as a carry on? I just dont see that working out well.

Dude I carry my TTM57 everywhere I go, no compromising my sets, what if you get to a club and they got a shitty mixer with no fader etc, get my point? If you're doing video it becomes an added bonus to you clients and they should make available to you whats on your tech rider!
DJ Food 2:00 PM - 12 May, 2008
I take mine everywhere, get a small flight case, one that holds a CDJ should be big enough. Most airlines will let you carry it on as hand luggage as well

i put mine in my backpack when i went to vegas. had to take it out of the bag with the laptop when it went thru the xray machine, other than that no issues at all.

I have the burton DJ bag and fly with my 57sl and laptop as carry on all the time. No problem except security sometimes asks what it is.

I would never check it in. Because I dont want to subject the mixer to extreme temperature changes, potential loss or theft, and mishandling.

Also be very careful when you're travelling to different clubs about their electricity. I recently had problems with power loss at a high profile club I was playing at, and elsewhere I saw another DJ's 57sl start smoking along with the rest of the rented equipment about a month ago....because the club had bad electricity.

I would personally avoid asking for a TTM-57SL in the tech rider depending on who's doing the event and how far you have to travel. Event promoters screw up more often than not and it just opens up more possibility for problems if u rely on them than if you carry your own...

I have flown with mine in a Headliner Bag, the original larger ones with the side pockets that stick out. Worked out great. Be prepared to take it out and explain what it is at Security though...

Everytime!!!

I usally tell them in a dj, give them a mix cd and move along ;-)

sometimes i carry 2 laptops + the 57sl.....i usually have like 5 trays full of electronics to pass thru the xray machine and a line of people staring at me...

i generally try to distance myself from ignorant robotic people but airport security is just one of those situations in life that i cannot avoid. 1st off the entire security system is completely inept, and offensive when you think about how expensive yet ineffective it is. i occasionally get a cowboy who wants to play with the mixer hoping that if he moves the right combination of buttons and knobs a magical bomb will explode in his face. yet somehow thes dopes have missed razors and lighters that ive accidentally carried on the plane. its actually disgusting to think that there are people in the security industry getting filthy rich everytime a fool wants to play with my mixer.

i've had occasions where i've put gear in my check in baggage, and then it was opened up, ransacked and scratched by security. also, once in awhile the airlines lose my luggage and it takes 2 or 3 days to get it. so if you're flying on the same day as your gig, carry on is the way to. no need to take chances...

airport security can be pig ignorant! especially in china. some of them dont even know what a dj is/does. nevermind the mixer!! so a big square metal box in your luggage gets them all moist in the gusset!

doesnt do any harm asking... that way if you take yours you have it as a back-up...

if i dont feel good about where i'm headed for a gig, i take my Monster Cable power conditioner too...

It's like hott chicks, you dont know anything about what you can't see

I'm going to Vegas this january (from LA) with all the new security checks, do you think they'll let me take my 57 SL in my flight case as carry on, or are they going to bitch about it? Also can those new gnarly x-ray body scanners damage the mixer? Anyone know?

you don't carry anything into that new machine.....and yes they'll let you carry your mixer on the plane.....
DJ Quartz 4:04 PM - 28 January, 2011
It's good to know people have boarded with a flight case.
ancientyouth 7:31 PM - 8 February, 2011
Its the pelican case.....
DJ BENTHERE 4:33 PM - 19 August, 2011
I have boarded over 50 planes with my 57SL, its fine as a carry-on item. they will usually pull you to the side while they run a quick bomb test thingy at the x-ray. Other than that, no problems in over 20 countries :)
Dj Nyce 4:29 AM - 23 August, 2011
i have boarded with my odyessey black, udg creator and the original box. carry-on only. if you check your 57, you'll either never see it again or you'll get your shit back with wires hanging out.
