OK so those who know what im upto know that im not into the whole promo only thing and video mashups (thats not me dissing whoever is, its purely me being into electronic music house, breaks, trance e.t.c.) So the footage I have have been dubbing onto music is more VJ based and animation responsive to the audio but to get the most creatively I have been in need of alpha in video content...
My first thought was that this may have been supported in the contained format FLV using the on2 VP6 codec which supports alpha (basically its a streamable version of the h264 standard with alpha support included, damm good vid compression algorythm aswell). But as always it was never that simple so I have found the best way that me and 1Move are working on is to create video with slightly up brightness by about 10% is good and use the luma key plugin to key anything below 5% so you get nice clean cut lines and a make shift alpha channel on your video (got some great ways of implimenting this into a live set and will start uploading vids again when Im back from ibiza). This is a nice trade off as you only loose 10% luma at the black end of the scale which isnt that noticable and you can raise the contrast to make the dark images even darker (back to pure black)...
FAO Nathan - Alpha support possible in 1.1? if not do you have any similair work around or somthing a little more efficient? I have had some success with tying in the luma black plugin to the scratch plugin.

I made some custom video content based around the luma black plugin as well.. Showed some of it at ReMix hotel in Miami last week. I'll try to get some footage up in the next week or so.
Can't wait to see what you're working on Kutz.
