ok...
I have a home workstation I plan on using with Serato just to build overviews, set cue points, loops, etc.
I have an external drive with a small video library on it to test out some things.
I have the library synced up with a duplicate library on the home workstation computer's internal hard drives.
Well I have the external connected I started to just build a couple of overviews and set cue points for testing purposes.
Now... I went back to the master library and updated tagging info. Proper name capitalization, artist in the artist field, etc. I synced up the library back to the external and uploaded the changed files.
I then reload Serato and hit "rescan id3 tags" granted the mp4's aren't exactly id3 tags but that is the ONLY way I know how how to refresh your tags.
The files that I already built overviews for... ONLY updated the ARTIST field... the song title field was left as it was... unchanged..
I tried to just re-import them back in... but the built overviewed files had the same info.. . artist updated... song title unchanged... .. I have tested this out with all fields like album, etc.. just have the artist, title & bpm right now.
soooo... does that mean I have to erase my serato crates and delete the ".ScratchLIVE" folder from the root of the drive, rebuild my crates, rebuild overviews, set cue points, loops, etc.. EVERYTIME I update tags on my video library?!?!?!?
that doesn't seem right!!
If there is something I am missing on how to accomplish this without HAVING to redo ALL that work.. let me know. .. . . or is it a bug in the software??

hope they fix that...
another thing I have discovered through some testing...
once again.. tell me if this has been covered too..
I update my library... delete a few files... and rescan for id3 tags.. the deleted files are still in the crate.. & I tried to redrag the contents of the folder back into the crate. It won't tell it is missing until you try to load it. Also... is there a way to just "refresh" the crate contents without having to drag over the contents from the initial folder they reside in? Seems odd that it wouldn't just refresh the folder when either re-dragging the contents or rescan for id3 tags.
... and don't say rebuild overviews... that is ridiculous if you have thousands of files your are working with.
anyone? anyone?

nevemind about the finding the deleted files.... I was looking in the wrong crate... my bad...
it did show up as pink colored files signifying that it is no longer there.

deleting from the crate doesn't delete it from the all area.
it's not like vdj where it automatically lists the folder contents from explorer/finder.

oh I know...
I was deleting the file itself going through stuff on my main workstation...
Not with Serato or anything.. just moving video files around. After doing an edit of a track .. I remove the original from my mobile library because I now have and edit.. so.. when reloading it back into Serato.. it shows the missing files in pink color so I know I can safely delete those out of the crate (database... whatever) so it doesn't keep looking for it.
too bad it doesn't work like vdj where it would automatically just refresh a folder when starting up the software... then you can see new tracks as the ones that haven't been scanned for overviews...

I will not use iTunes.
I already "bought a mac".... that's as far as I am going into the apple orchid.

come on, you're in the orchard and you aren't going to eat an apple. Get over it already.
iTunes does this for you, interfaces with Serato, but you don't want to use it....?

because I have my library on my main workstation... then I change files there using my much better method of tagging than iTunes... I then have a program I use to sync up the libraries on my external drives. I usually have at least two identical drives that are encrypted. (one is for back-up)
While the external is connected to my main home workstation I build my crates, make cue points, etc.
After all that it updated. I then can connect it to my macbook or toshiba laptop and open Serato with all my info there.
the problem is that Serato makes it difficult to simply refresh a folder/crate when there are changes.
I like my programs and methods. I am very proficient with them.
I don't like iTunes.
