Video SL with iMac vs MacBook Pro

So I have been sitting on my video plug in for a while and finally installed it on my MacBook Pro (2.0 Ghz, 2.0 Ghz Ram, 128 Video Ram) Anyways it works alright. Some videos seem to stutter in the preveiw windows but no in the main output and my computer runs REALLY hot. So I figure for editing I was going to by a 24" iMac (2.4 Ghz, 4 Ghz Ram, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory) well then I thought about it and I was curious if anyone was using an imac with Video SL. I DJ at the same lace on Friday and Saturday nights so I would basically setup Friday and leave it set-up all weekend. Also the bigger screen would probablly do btter with the preveiw screens inside VSL. Are MacBook Pros supposed to be better than iMacs ? Is it just a mobility thing? Because the price is definately a HUGE difference. I guess then I could retire my MacBook Pro and use it for editing and audio only gigs. Any thoughts? I think I read somewhere that A-Swift was using an iMac at first with VSL. Hoping he'll chime in here. Haven't seen him since Budweiser's industry night. Thoughts please... anyone?

Yeah man. I was the smart guy a while back who bought the iMac specifically for doing video gigs. I got the same specs as a MacBook pro and saved $1000. Well as it turns out, I'm not so smart because I ended up buying the macbook pro any damn way. Oh well.
Don't get me wrong. I love that iMac. All around one of the most versatile computers I own. I do EVERYTHING on that bad boy. But I am a straight up complainer when it comes to setup and teardown at the gig. It's just too much shit to carry. That screen IS nice for the preview windows, it's like a little TV set for each preview window. But the macbook pro works better for me in every way at the gig.
If I had a resident spot where I could just leave my shit, you damn right I'd get drop an imac in the spot.
I remember that industry night, in Costa Mesa right. That was the one where the "model/dj" in Kagen's room went off on him because she forgot how to operate DJ equipment and blamed him.

oh what a night.... stupid bitch with her bedazzled mac. She showed it off so proudly only to have her name go upside down after it was open. She also took the time to thrust out her bedazzled bra, my girl was nearby watching... And then she went off on me.... oh what a night.

Yeah I got stuck closing that night... by the time Miss Lisa got off the decks I spun for about 5 mins and the lights came on. Either way fun night, free booze and I got paid to spin for 5 mins. Anyhow I guess I'll look into iMacs. I just wish they made a road case for them. I saw one at ilugger.com but it's a soft padded case. I wanna try to find a flight case.

Nice find road ready have cases for everything. I've been thinking of going that route too but it seems like it would be a pain in the ass trying to find a place to put the keyboard.

True that about the iPhone, I just shattered the glass on my iPhone. It works fine its just not so pretty anymore. On another note, I just ordered a new 20" iMac 2.4GHz with 4 Gigs of Ram. Hopefully this will do the trick for VSL. I thought about the 2.8GHz iMac extreme but 24" is just to big to be gigin around with. Besides 20" is bad enough.
I thought about keyboard placement too. So I was thinking I would place it on the laptop stand that I use for my MacBook Pro. Or I could rest it in between the two decks just above the mixer. Not really worried about keyboard placement, what I am worried about is having a huge screen in front of my face so that I can't see the dance floor.

I have the 20" imac 2.4 with 2 gigs of ram and it works great. Absolutely no problems with anything. I installed it in my DJ booth two weeks ago and it is getting used six nights a week. Not one single complaint from any of my DJ's. (Except for the CD DJ that doesn't want to learn serato) He'll come around eventually, or else.

I am glad to hear that there were others out there that have tried this config. I can't wait to start using it.
