Effects Auto-Gain Limiter

Noticed how its easy to accumulate too much additional gain and over-all volume using the on-board effects. example feedback through echos, flanger, phaser.. etc.
you will notice that while using a DJM 600/800 .. the effects section will never allow the signal to gain any (gain) or volume while utilizing an effect. .. makes it so that you'll never compromise the source impact when you finish effecting the source.
i noticed its sometimes too easy to over embellish while using an effect.. and without actually gaining the source.. the effects processors alone on the 57 allows crazy amounts of gain to happen. when the effect is turned off.. the previous enhancement in gain makes the original, un-effect signal sound under gained and weak.
i understand that perfect practice with gain levels, effect mix percent.. and over-all effect feedback settings make it possible to use the effects with less volume dynamics.. but wouldn't it be easier to just implement a limiter in the effects system so that no matter what the tweak is.. sound gain could never reach over the source setting. ex. DJM effects. if you wanted that added craziness of dBs .. you could just do what feels normal.. and physically gain the channel.
I love my 57 .. and I wouldn't trade it for anything.. but i also miss and respect the ease and fidelity of the pioneer effects engine.

yeah I've had to really manipulate the effects with the 57. When I first started using them they would either be too loud or not loud enough. Not that I have the configuration down they work pretty good. Just trial and error like anything else ya know?

yeah i totally hear ya. i love the depth and the professionalism of the 57 effects.. but you know.. its too easy to F up sometimes.
you could never over-do-it on a pioneer.. at least dB wise.
when im techno.. i use alot of the effects in the dirtiest way.. like short timings and tons of feedback.. this can be done on the pioneer too... but like i said.. its impossible to make it sound too loud.
on the 57 .. depending on how one is using the effect.. one has to constantly keep watch on the volume or mix percentage. its these small but necessarily adjustments that hold me back from making the sounds id like to.
again.. not at all knocking the 57 or the effects .. just seems like it was something that pioneer must have programmed into the DSP on those older boards.

Wow, I have been thinking about this, since I got my 57. Everytime I think have it set right and I try an echo out in a club environment it is way too loud! and sounds like crap. When I'm practicing @ home it's perfect.

Can somebody post they're formula for a perfect echo out with the FlexFX.
Something like BPM LOCK, X2, MIX 20%, Feedback 30% etc.

Oh, and those settings work fine for me with tracks up to about 110bpm. Afterwards it is better to set the BPM multiplier to x1 rather than x1/2.

Another reason why I don't use effects. I never have before but I noticed when using some on the 57 there was mad gain... and it sounded just too loud and overpowering. lol

I use the effects all the time, you have to use it like you would a efx500 or 1000. You can't let the music overlap each other. My settings are pretty high, mix around 65% and Feedback at 60%

I've never used a 500 or 1000 or any effects machines except to test them out...
So, when I hit echo, and fade out... it still seems louder... with the echo on its own.

For a less overpowering echo try the HP echo. Set P2 to control the cutoff frequency, at you can fade the echo in by starting the cutoff at 16KHz and bringing it down slowly.
I mostly use the 1/3 multiplier and occasionally 1/2 or 1.

I actually echo out manually as I really don't like effects. :)
I was just pointing out that it does sound overpowering. I like my fader echos. :)

I like echo out with the fader when I have the time, it's fun and it's a better show. But most times I'm too busy, I use the echo effect because it gives me time to do other things.
On a EFX# you would hold the hold switch at the start of where you want the echo, and when you would cut out the sound with the fader exactly before the echo starts to loop. The timing is BPM dependent.
I use the Aux (in group 6/effects, have buttons 3 and 6 active) as the hold, the similar method on a 57, would be to push the Aux. button where you want the echo to begin. I usually use 1X, than cut out sound with the line faders exactly before the sounds starts to loop.
It is much easier than it sounds.
