Powermate probs

seratosnatch 6:58 PM - 5 November, 2005
I bought a Griffin usb powermate and want to use it to select up/down and load tracks. I have it setup now as scroll right = down arrow and scroll left= up arrow..To load I have long click down and left = loads track into left deck (Shift / Arrow left) and so on..
The problem I get is loading tracks into decks sometimes after I load a track and turn left or right again..no reclicking it loads the same into the opposite deck..Anyone else have this problem..
I wondered how others have their Powermates configured..I wish Rane made a dedicated controller for internal mode..or at least usb.midi control.

I know that you've already purchased the Griffin Powermate - but a great alternative would be the Shuttle Pro by Contour Designs - www.contourdesign.com

This has multiple user-programmable buttons that are also easily labeled so you don’t forget what you programmed each one to do. You can scroll through your crates, tracks, load to either deck or “eject” - there’s more than 10 different keys and a jog/shuttle wheel.

Maybe it is a better solution...Yours works well?

Yeah - it's really easy to program and so far has worked flawlessly. I used to accidentally load a track to the deck that was already playing !doh! - with the Shuttle-pro I just programmed the buttons on the sides to load the selected track to the corresponding deck - now no more f-ups.

I prefer this method as I always like to mix in with the vinyl then flip it to Internal mode to avoid any possible jumps etc..I need a controller to hit this from Abs -Internal fast. I use my mouse and once hit the arrows below and it played the next song in my playlist..Was kinda a quick mix.
Those arrows are close..
I have a Contour Express somewhere..not the Pro..but should do the job..
Thanks

Nope - not one single problem [<knocks on wood]. I'm using a 1.5ghz Powerbook, 80g internal drive for storage and 512ram. Although I'v also used the same set-up on a 800mhz Powerbook. Ony issue with that one was the screen refresh rate. I had to lower it to about 30 otherwise it was fine.

Can you switch focus from the 'song explorer' section to the 'crate explorer' section using this gadget ?

Yeah, if you assign the keyboard shortcut "tab" to the controller.

Just wanted to add that I too have a powemate. I had it set up to press and turn to load, but sometimes it loaded the wrong deck mid-song. It was great when it worked but I coudn't afford to have the wrong deck loaded. I don't use it anymore. I don't like deck lock because I usually load several songs while the deck is spinning to preview.
