Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

Gigs using Video-SL / How does VSL work for you?

Filthy King 6:57 PM - 21 February, 2008
I want too see how DJ's are using their new Video-SL software. What kinds of display's are people using? What kinds of gigs are you using it at? How do you use it to enhance your performances? Real-life functionality. Anybody able to take the 57 in a nightclub and use the club display system? How did that work out? Anybody using the software for their Mobile DJ service? How is that working out for you? Anybody used it on stage at a large venue? How did your performance go? How often do people run into the problem where they can't use their 57 and need to use the SL1?
What's the real deal with the 57SL and the new Video-SL ?

Cause people are cheap. We all know PC servers are cheap compared to mac servers. :)

I gig every Saturday with VSL and it's been flawless. Of course I'm on a MacBook Pro using either custom videos made by myself or Promo Only DVDs ripping using Serato's settings.

Ive been using the Video sl for about 4 weeks now. first 2 weeks were a little ruff cause i didnt have enough ram on my mac. I had a lot of usb drop but upgrading to leopard OX took care of that issue. then I upgraded my ram to 4 gigs. Watching the Analysis Monitor i was able to see that serato video was using 2.6 gigs of ram running full res. Even at half res it was at 2.2. Ive had a little issues with losing the video output and having to restart it when i load a video or use some of the video transitions (about once a night). The MBP seems to get laoded up about the end of the night and i have to shut down serato and then restart it to keep going. This is in a Club enviroment with heavy mixing and mashing videos an movie clips.

i think in time with more bugs worked out serato video will be more flawless and not have these issues. I still prefer to use it then any other format or programs.

I just Spoke at a Seminar @ the Night Club & Bar Convention about serato video verses all the other programs out there. I have been using the DVJs for the last year and half and dont see ging back to dvd Ever again....lol Although That new pioneer video mixer is BADA$$.....i dont see why serato cant add the same video trasitions and features into new releases. Even DJ 2nd nature was asking me questions about the Video Sl setup.

Im running a new Macbook Pro 2.4, 4g ram, 160hd

As far as monitors in the clubs im usually tap into 5-10 LCD, plasmas, and i run a DLP projector on a stretch screen behind me for a bigger impact. I have 2 19" lcd monitors that i put into a turntable Flight Case that are placed behind me as well and hold the stretch screen up. Very cool setup and gets peoples attention.

I use it twice a week, since it was released. Use it with a MacBook on Friday and MBP on Saturday (my Friday booth is too open to spills....so I don't bring my new MBP).
Only real issue was my fault, changed my 'video ram' setting in Scratch from 1GB to 1.5GB in the middle of a set, and my MB didn't like it too much, froze up for about 20 seconds! I still notice some video lag from time to time, which frustrates me, but otherwise software works very well. Very happy with the product.
