Ok, I've been DJing for years and regard myself a vinyl snob. I've bought scratch live2 and it's sitting unopened as whilst in a dj store I was told of the 57. I do travel alot to London and Portugal, which means going places that wouldn't have RANE compatable arrangements Q. is it better to have the 57 or just scratchlive to plug in? I'm terrified about heading into the rane world.
How great is it??
Should I sell my scratchlive and buy the 57?
Arrgghhh!!!

travelling would be easier with the sl1 box....but the 57 allows you to purchase and use the video plug-in.

I'll jump in first before you get flamed on.
1. There is no scratch live 2, there has only been one version of the hardware.
You would be better off with the Scratch Live Box, because you can plug it into a majority of other mixers. This will allow you to incorporate Serato into most current club systems. You can also plug serato into the mixer (if the inputs and outputs are reachable) mid set.
The 57 mixer has serato but into the mixer. Pluses of this is short set up time, better sound and you can control serato features from the mixer.
And Serato is Awesome, very easy learning curve, but definitely learn to use it before playing out with it.

I remember doing a show at turnmills and in the hiphop room some kid looked shithouse constantly looking deep into his screen, at that time it kinda put me off and I have only ever djed with other fellas using scratch in copenhagen where they seemed more adept. This was my thinking of going direct to the 57 as I'd seen it on youtube being promoed and looked much slicker.
So Niros, You still reckon I should get my head stuck into what I have, keep it AND get the 57 when the young apprentice is ready to go into the big wide world with a double barrel shot gun??!!
Thanks for replys this truly is a great forum!!

The 57 is a luxury, you don't need it, but it is very nice to have and use. I love to death and am bummed out when I can't use it to play. And that is why I suggest keeping the box version. Because unless you are able to turn off the system and plug the mixer in, than you can't really use it. There have been times were I would put the mixer on top of the existing mixer switching in mid set and plug the out put of the 57 into the house mixer. I use to carry foam pads 1" think, so I could do this.
We call the DJ's that stare at the screen myspace DJ's. You don't have to, there are times when I'm forced to put my laptop close to the ground or under the decks. Staring is up to you.

the 57 sound beautiful, the faders are diffrent, the EQ's are verys nice, you can control serato with it so way less touching the laptop.. I also travel quite a bit around europe but it is well worth dragging my mixer thru the airports because once you get into the 57 you will love it that much.. I actually like the 57 so much I own 2 of them now :) but I also have a SL1 box in my bag just in case something should happen

yeah i've got both...i really hate playing without my 57. another great feature about it is that it's compatible with both US and European electrical sources, which will be highly beneficial in your situation.
I'll give you the same advice I give to everyone thinking of switching from the SL1 box to the 57: Get a 57 and keep your SL1. You never know when you're gonna need it.
