I havent yet got SSL - am preping first - ripping primarilly from CD's and after many a many deliberation have decided on AIFF or WAV as my std
my reasoning - no need to worry about encoding + no worries loss of sound quality + buy a couplde of grunty hard drives and back up to DVD = OK sweet as this suits me
but I cant decide which - AIFF or WAV?
from what I can gather AIFF has better tagging functionality? - which is pretty important cause I want to get super organised from the word go
however mixmiester bpm anylizer cant auto detect AIFF's? which leaves WAV ^^^^^^^^^ hmmmmm
or are there any other programmes that can detect bpm for AIFF???
sound quality is comparably the same so it justs comes down to functionality and ease of use with SSL (which I dont have yet which makes it hard to decide :) cause I can't have a play
users of WAV/AIFF - please share your experiences!

Mixmeister doesnt tag WAVs correctly, at least not in a way that SSL can read it.

ok - so i'd still have to manually tag them in itunes anyway
if i manually tag an AIFF file in i-tunes it will populate the actual AIFF file so if I copy on dvd and play on another laptop it will register the bpm - correct?
i just want to make ensure that the times spent tagging doesnt go to waste - have been wasting time up to this point tagging WAV's!!

sweet as mate - sounds like the way to go
if I did decide to convert from AIFF to OGG or MP3 down the track - would all the track info/bpm transfer over as well?
will hopefully get SSL this weekend and everything will be clearer
thanks all!

Does iTunes actually store the tagged data in the .wav file itself or just in an iTunes database? What about SSL....I mean if you edit the tag info in SSL itself, does it save it in the .wav file? I don't think it does, which really sucks.
I am in the process of trying to find a good tag editor that can work with mp3, wav, flac, ogg, etc.. and will save the tag data back into the audio file. Any suggestions?

correct. SSL stores the info to its own database, as does iTunes. if the two clash, SSL will use the iTunes database first. you can test this by importing a song into SSL and turning iTunes Import off. As soon as you turn iTunes support back on, the track title will change.
If you use iTunes, and use an external hard drive and not use your own laptop (for example at a club where SSL is pre-installed), that would become a problem.
