yes, but that 256 is soldered on the motherboard with 1 empty ram slot for upgrade. where did you see this? does apple sell refurbs across the pond (that is not the current model)?

Go to www.myspace.com to see my iBook and why the 12" is actually a good investment. It fits just right.
gazmonster 8:08 AM - 14 October, 2005
is it the prossesor power that effects the latency? or the ram?

i think i might go for the second spec...am i likely to have to have a high buffer setting?

i scratch loads you see....
sixxx 8:29 AM - 14 October, 2005
On a mac, your minimum buffer will be set at 2. You can't go to 1 like on a PC.

I have my iBook running at 2. No problems whatsoever. Refresh rate is at default - whatever that is.

Check my computer specs.

but a mac is more reliable right?

do you scratch sixxx .... do you find no latency at buffer level 2?

will the 512 ram effect the latency

cheers dudes

Both PC and MAC are reliable. The reason people choose MAC is on here say. Take whats best for yourself take peoples advise but the finally word is yours to make. Serato runs perfect in both worlds thats why everyone using the product is happy and the known issues discussions is next to none because there are no issues to have. If y d get a make bump the ram on the 1.2 G4 or the if u get the 1.33 G4 then you will be alright

I do scratch and the latency at 2 is almost unnoticeable. I just basically adjusted my fader movement and it's all good. I don't have any issues with my iBook.

Also, SSL is very reliable on both PC and MAC. I chose mac because I also do graphics on it when I'm not on my G5. Also, some PC and Mac users run into problems but I believe most issues have been resolved.

So get what's going to work BEST for YOU.

When I had purchased my SL1 unit, the guy at agiprodj.com said that there are some models of the MAC laptops that may not be able to provide enough USB phantom power to the SL1 unit. He mentioned that they were the older models begore 1.5ghz. I have a 1.5Ghz 12" pbook and the 1.5Ghz models are supposed to able to provide enough phantom power through USB. The message I got from the salesguy was that the 1.5ghz models and up have the USB phantom power issue fixed, but I have not researched this to confirm. I know that my 1.5Ghz pbook works fine with SL1, but I dont know about the older models.

Anyways... maybe you should research the iBooks/Pbooks so that you buy a model that will supply sufficient USB phantom power.

Or get a power supply.... I just cant rely on the usb port to supply sufficient constant power...I rather be safe than sorry.

....but to each their own

i'll confirm that for you. its not 100% true. i had 2 1.5ghz powerbooks and i needed the power on one but not the other.

myth: busted

personally if I only had £700 to spend I would buy a PC laptop. If you want a Mac you need to spend more than that to get something decent.

If you are going to get an ibook, get the 12" that's the only one that makes any sense.
SpinThis! 10:38 PM - 16 October, 2005
if you're just buying a laptop for SSL use i'd get a windows laptop. they're quicker and cheaper. if you have a reason to buy a mac (eg you use one at work or plan to do audio/video stuff and need mac-only programs, etc), than get a mac.
