Help- Getting crates and itunes music onto external hard drive

Ok so I just ordered an external hard drive and Im wondering what is the easiest way to get all my music from my laptop onto the external hard drive?

I have about 15gbs in itunes (latest version) and 3 crates (version 1.4) in serato. Im using an IBM thinkpad.

Also is it possible to copy the music to the external drive and leave it on my computer as well? Im thinking about using it straight off my computer for now until it gets too large and just having the external drive as a backup in case something happens.

I am currently married (and dependent) on having my external hd to use itunes and serato because my entire collection resides on an external drive. It sucks to be unable to use itunes while disconnected from everything else.

My recommendation would be to only keep your best stuff on your lappy and create your own organized folder structure of all your b-list tracks on the ext hd. You are free to use itunes and serato w/o your ext hd and can plug it in to expand to your larger song collection in Serato.
