Mixmash closing down

Just got an email from MixMash www.mixmash.com saying they're closing down.

It's good in the short term, all their visuals DVDs are half price so I'll be picking up a few of those.

Long term, seems like a real shame though. Don't know why they're shutting down, but they were one of the few legal services which had made inroads towards digital properly, their weekly QuickMash was only a tenner and I picked up a few of those.

Also, their custom disc service, although quite pricey, was handy for picking up a few odds and ends from their catalogue.

It's curious as to why the end has come now, you'd think the demand for video would be rising with all us DJs getting into video... Maybe they just couldn't keep up with the 'all-digital' pools. I'm gonna email them and see what they say.

Anyway, RIP MixMash.

There are 2 companies (video pools) that I know of that are demanding to the record companies that those companies that are not 100% legal be shut down. You are right phatbob, there is a demand for video services...which is why the labels are now starting to look at whose is 100% legal...they want to make sure they get their cut and that they can still control the product.


These 2 companies are also trying to do everything they can to stop new, legal companies from starting up in the US.

It's madness isn't it.

Like so many aspects of the music industry, they seem to try really hard to prevent people PAYING for content legally.

For the record, MixMash were fully legal in the UK, they were a long established provider of DVD content to the industry and fully licenced. Which makes it even more of a shame if they couldn't compete price-wise against those providers who operate in 'grey areas'. But if the labels call the pricing, what could they do?
