Question about the Vestax VCI 300 MKII

Mike Sinclair 7:15 PM - 18 May, 2012
I was going to start a thread under the Vestax vci 300 but it didn't allow that option (just had a button for support)... I actually just have a general question about the unit and a feature. I had a Denon HC5000 and it had a nice feature that I don't believe the Vestax has (unless I'm overlooking it). The Denon had an "Add" button and you could add songs to the "Prepare" section as well as the ability to load to each deck. Can you do this with the Vestax? Or would I have to drag songs to the prepare window with the mouse?

OK... never mind. It doesn't matter at this point. The Vestax locked up on me 3 times in less than 2 hours and I had to restart the software to regain control of it. I had this same problem with the Denon (although it seemed to be working previously). I will be shipping the unit back. SIGH!

I think the first question is more of an ITCH question than for the hardware. Why not just make a prepare folder and drag tracks to it?

As far as locking up, that happened to my 300 once with an older version of Itch but not since 2.0... I assume you're up to date on 2.2?

Well, unfortunately, I can't trust ITCH to DJ weddings. I had the "play button freeze" issue with 2 different brand controllers with 3 different computers and 3 different versions of ITCH... not sure what's happening, but a DJ is only as good as the tools he is using and I don't want to have to restart the software in the middle of a gig.

True enough. The only time I had a freeze was actually at the one wedding I've played for a friend. Since the VCI was plugged directly into the system I had to reboot and let the speakers pop. Luckily it was at the very start so nobody noticed. Still sketched me out though.

In the future, to avoid that sort of situation, I would bring a little Mackie mixing board to go between the controller and the system. Plus have a my iPhone plugged in auxiliary in case I have to play music while restarting Itch.

If you are having that many problems, I wouldn't be looking at blaming the hardware or the software, you got something else going on, either with corrupt music files, not analyzing, hard drive issues, or the way you got your computers setup. There are plenty of people that never have had any problems with Itch or Serato. I for one have been using Serato with TT and CDJ's for years, and have never once had a single problem. Same thing with Itch, no problems what so ever. Every time I get a new controller or version of Itch, it works just fine. I have had a couple of minor problems, but nothing I couldn't figure out.

Right, why would I blame the hardware or software when other hardware and software work flawlessly? Look at the support sections in Serato. Almost every ITCH controller released has MANY posts about all the problems people are having. I'm seriously happy that it works for you. I really wish it would work for me, because I like Itch a lot.
