First night out with the Pioneer DDJ S1

I don't know about you guys but as a mobile DJ, I'm tired of lugging around this big ass gear with the flight cases, coffin (if you have one), CDJs, DJMs, Serato Box, all those cables!! So I finally gave into 'the future of DJing' and this high tech stuff. I bought a Pioneer DDJ S1 because 1. I love Pioneer and 2. I love Pioneer.

Serato Itch is very easy to use, really no different from SSL.

The controller took some getting used to. The cue for some reason wouldn't work half the time, I would set it to cue and it would return back to the start of the track. The audio was pretty good. It did cut out for half a second but that was only due to the fact I was moving the track wheel a bit too fast. The only fear I have for this is the thing crashing and I'll have no mixer or anything to plug straight into my speakers at a wedding or something. OH, and no booth out.... Really Pioneer?!?!

Let me know your thoughts on this...

I'm just speaking in general about the DDJ S1.

I feel the same way about being a mobile dj. I don't understand how djs in 2012 are still lugging turntables, cdjs and heavy ass equipment to simple mobile gigs. For clubs where stuff is already installed i understand using 1200s, cdjs, and etc. I have both the ns6 and a vci 300 and love them. I've been using itch since 2009 and it has been as stable for me as scratch live. I guess it all comes down to becoming comfortable with using new equipment or programs, but when you finally decide to make the jump you'll wish you would've incorporated a midi controller in your dj repertoire long before you did.

I've had that 1 second pause plenty of times on this unit. I posted about it and I remember others complaining about it too, but no one from Serato or Pioneer can replicate the problem... so I gave up on trying to figure it out. It also crashes when I play Justin Timberlake. Go figure. The latency on this thing is horrible for scratching but it does make a decent mobile rig.
