unused drivers

hi,

someone else posted about this in the forum and the official response from a rane rep was basically "deal with it" but that's ridiculous. the issue is that now installing ssl creates a driver per ssl device out there (sl2, sl3, sl4, 68, 61 & 62) each of which uses a chunk of memory and since there are 6 of these, this is using a significant amount of my ram and.... to make it worse, i'm running the 57 and it doesn't even use one of these drivers! couldn't you have coded the installer to just install one driver based on the device you are using? i mean, seriously. there's the ram they use (and since most of us are dj'ing on laptops i'd say it's safe to assume we generally have less ram at our disposal than if we were mostly desktop users) but there's also the ridiculous clutter of six individual entries in the system prefs panel! like really? six entries for devices i don't use and, were i to be using one, wouldn't need the other five anyway?! how about a check box in the installer which lets us choose our hardware and then doesn't throw a bunch of unnecessary, resource using drivers on my computer? that doesn't seem like too much to ask.... especially since most installation apps let you have the option to customize your installation.

i appreciate the work you do and the quality of your products and i'm pretty sure you had a good reason for the multiple drivers thing (probably transparency and ease for the end user) but it just is a bit much.

sincerely,
ed

i'll also add that a restart of the comp shows memory usage per driver being around 4MB but after a while it creeps up to higher than 40MB..... 240MBs + of my RAM for drivers is the part that really bugs me.

How are you seeing the memory usage per driver?
