Recording Mix to CD ...track marker question...

DJ GaFFle 3:32 PM - 3 October, 2005
I tried searching the forum but did not find a FREE program for the MAC which will allow be to add cd tracks (markers) to my hour-long mix. Right now, I have a very long continuous track. I have Audacity but I don't think it can do it. Remember FREE (for MAC)...if not FREE, just point me in the right direction. THanx.

only thing i can think of is using your cd burning software and changing the track silence inbetween track to zero. other than that you need an audio editing program (i use cool edit) to record and burn your mixes with tracks.

i can't find anything free. in fact, all i could really find was 'jam' (toast from roxio).

Okay, I have JAM AND I created indexes but it did not splice the recording when dumped to CD. How do I do it in Jam6? Anyone use any other program for MAC that will help me? I can't believe it is so hard to find a program to do what seems like a basic task...

You might be able to do it on Audacity which is free, let me try and I'll let you know.

Well I tried but you can't do it right. There is a way to do it but it would be too hard to do it right. If you are running MAC OS9 there is a free version of protools you can download and you can do it on that. Actually there might be a OS9 CD that came with your mac if you want to Install and run OS9 you could use that and then download the free version of protools.

At this point, I am not stressed about the FREE part, I just need a program on MAC that will do it. I was able to use Nero on the PC but had to convert my .wav mix into AIFF to work.

Can you splice up an MP3 on Nero?

For long WAV mixes, I use 'cdrdao' to burn the cd.
With cdrdao, you create a TOC[Table of Contents] file. In the table of contents file, you put how long each song will be.(search google for sample TOC files to get format.)
The software works great. It creates as many markers as I want on my burned mix cd.

If you go the 'fink.sourceforge.net and download fink for your OS, you can use the 'fink commander' to compile the 'cdrdao' source code.
Very easy to use, if you are a command line guy.

Otherwise, you can create a text based menuing type script to create the TOC file then burn after TOC file is created.

the best way to do add track markers on the mac is to follow the steps on this page,

www.recordandplay.org

This is possible on both mac and PC, there are many different ways to add track markers to a CD but this is probably the most straight forward and its free. What you could do instead is get a hardware CD burner which would allow you to add track markers to the CD before closing it, in much the same way that you would for a mini disc.
