Do you mean videoke? Yes, you will need to convert that vcd to mp4. I have tried DAT file but serato doesn't recognize it. Also you will need a live mixer and use the left channel main out with y connection for videoke and stereo for regular Video. So you end up with two line input on the live mixer/main mixer.

You will need it if those videoke have vocals on the right channel.

Honestly it serato made the vidoe -sl support MP3+g files then karaoke would be easy. Winamp did it so i dont see why that cant. What do the Mods think of this?

For now you can convert MP3+G to Video and use in Serato, there is a lot of these converters out there, here is one: www.powerkaraoke.com

It doesn't really matter on what we do, all we need is to make $$$.$$. I know some guys may look at karaoke sucks, but it helps us to get more clients.

we actually do Karaoke. I have a guy that works for me that does it 4 nights a week. We use MTU Hoster its a solid program. I just dont see why you would want to use scratch live to host your karaoke show when there are some pretty cool programs out there that are doing karaoke so well. Hoster has key change, a display of the next few singers on the screen a book making tool. stuff that serato doesn't and shouldn't have.

I rarely use key change on the karaoke, I'm just making it simple and using one program is a bit easier for me. In fact I'm not the one singing so i don't really care much.

This is exactly what i'm planning on doing. It simplifies things without having to have an external player or laptop. Plus if it's all in the data base, then you can use the same program for everything. It just makes sense.

Karaoke bring me more gigs a week at the bar I'm at Tue & thur is Taco Tuesday with a karaoke twist. And Friday is Friday night video mix. I get slammed with gigs. Just booked a video, karaoke, and dj gig for Nov 27 $500 taking 1 lcds 32" (video) and 1 26" monitor (for karaoke)

@2fast4u It's all true Karaoke brings in the steady paycheck the only reason It has taken me so long to get into it is because DJ-ing is a second job for me so I just do the Weekend club/ wedding thing but I'm going to start because I have been asked before and when it comes down to it one gig will pay for Karaoke songs.

yeah im using kjams myself on my mac and using searto itch with the vci 300 which works great cuz you can route the audio of kjams thru the vci. i now do vj, kj, and dj using a 19" tv and and splice to a projector with 5ft by 5 ft video screen or for a really big room 10 ft by 10ft.

I got into DJing because of Karaoke. Now my show is anout 1/3 Karaoke and 2/3 DJ. I use Karma for my karaoke because it is a really good program. It would actually be easier to switch windows between programs than it would be to try to run karaoke off Itch if the only thing it did was display the lyrics. I mean if you can do live mixes with Itch, then it should be no problem to do one extra mouse click to highlight a window. Karaoke software is much simpler than mixing, unless of course you are just playing song lists.

I've been a gigging DJ for about 10 years now. With the advent of digital/MIDI DJ rigs that are easier to use and more portable than ever before, I find the DJ market more and more saturated and harder and harder to get good paying gigs. I live in a tourist town where I used to be able to pull $200-250 for a 4-5 hour gig in 2002, and now the same gigs pay $50-100 and most typically want you to do a two hour gig and have multiple DJs on a single night.
Anyway, 7 years ago I was at a karaoke bar when the karaoke DJ walked out on the spot. The bar had a house system, and I BSed my way into finishing the show for them. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and it showed that night, but they did offer me the weekly gig. I was only at that particular bar for 6 months, but I soon got a bi-weekly karaoke gig at a popular club down the street. My karaoke is definitely a DJ show with karaoke in between, and it fills about 200 seats a night.
Anyway, I'll tell you two things about karaoke:
#1: It is harder than DJing.
In particular, there a ton more crowd interaction required, and not just "hype" stuff, but actually being genuinely witty and dealing with lots of diverse people.
#2: It pays better and is more steady work than DJ work. Good karaoke hosts work the same gig for years and years. I can only name a handful of places that have longstanding house DJs. I work twice a week every week at the karaoke gig, and don't miss the days of beating the streets for DJ gigs.
And my favorite story of all.......the other DJ guys I used to hang out always gig together, mostly due to the trend of shorter and shorter sets out at the clubs, so they can basically sell 2-3 DJs together to fill out a full night. Anyway, they have a good time at my karaoke gig, but are always giving me s**t that I'm "not a real DJ" anymore. I've known these guys forever, so I don't really care so much, but a few months ago they had a new guy who decided to join in on the "you're not a DJ" mantra. One thing coming from my boys, not the same coming from a guy I just met so I tore him a new one that went something like this:
"Seriously? Let me ask you something. How many gigs did you do last month?"
Guy says, "Uh, about 4-5."
"So you made about $600-700 max last month?"
"Uh, yeah, maybe a little less than that..."
"And how long have you been giging?"
"Uh, about 8 months."
"OK....well I started DJing 10 years ago, and doing karaoke 7 years ago. In that time, I've done almost 1,000 gigs and pulled down about $250,000 as a part time DJ. I could care less if you think I'm a real DJ or not, I'm here to make money, not to be a starving artist like most of the DJs in this town."
Anyway, all that to say that while I enjoy really expressing myself as a DJ, that's a few bumps down the list of why I'm doing it, with #1 being TO MAKE MONEY, and I'm splitting $350.00 a week ONE WAY for two steady 5 hour gigs a week, so I'm accomplishing my main goal just fine, while the other DJs I know all work in food service or at surf/skate shops and struggle to pay rent as "real DJs."
RANT OVER!

love the last story.
the best part is that they are at your gig. thus they are supporting you.
the brainiacs probably never even thought of that.
"real djs"...i hate that elitist term.
there are no "real djs", just a bunch of assholes with opinions.

would be nice if it was a paid plug-in. even if you need vsl/sv first, it would be something.
had to use vdj for karaoke last night at a corporate event. glad it could read my serato crates because it turned into dancing in the last hour. sucks that it couldn't read my cue points and all the tags are read wrong in vdj.

I converted mines over from cdg but the thing is you have to change the names cause if you have 5 of the same song it will not separate. it will over ride them. toke me about 18 months to finish.

I tried this software, It works. But you cannot do key change if needed, like in a karaoke program.

Thanks for the link - Im not too concerned about key changing.
Problem Im facing is that this is for windows only :(
I looked at Kjams Pro which has a version for mac, but it's $110. I find that a bit steep with the exchange rate at almost 11.00 ZAR to 1 USD....... just for converting purposes, Im not too sure it's worth it. Anyone know of something else available for mac users?
