mtv logos on video remixes don't look good at all. any video recorded off tv will suck. you know you can take the logos out, right? plus the "beat it" video is everywhere in good dvd quality. michael jackson made a couple different greatest hits dvd you can use.

Pull parts of the video that people are not talking and place that over the water marked part.

I could understand using an MTV video on some rare shit that you can't find anywhere but this is a no-brainer. I think you can get this one at Best Buy.

Then don't use the video! I know my DJ name may confuse some people but Stealing is wrong, and will get you fined. I recently heard saw it happen first hand. A club owner I know got fined 20,000.00 for hiring a DJ that played videos with water marks.
I'm gonna send this thread to the guys over at promo only and let them know there are guys openly asking how to remove water marks! they will love this. Lol

Watermarks are there to protect the content broadcasted on the whatever station (ie. VH1, MTV, BET, etc)
When remixing or editing tracks which I have been doing for over ten years plus now... I always make a point to make sure there is NO logo shown. I NEVER take tv recorded material and try to pass it off as my own or even out right play it. Like Steel said it could actually cause many legal issues.
Companies like promo only, screenplay, etc are the way to go if you want to play content inside a club. Those videos are made for that purpose.
And yes there is ways to edit out the "logo" or "tag" from those videos.

i almost always LEAVE the promo only mark in my video edits, even though its easy to remove. its only there for a moment anyway. some dudes i know run a site called crashvideos or something like that and they like to remove the promo only logos. i think cuz they are re-selling the videos they bought from PO, which i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do.

The funny thing that will land you in a huge mess is those Water marks aren't the only markers that Promo Only put in there videos to let them know it's theirs. There is a company that most of you know very well that is about to get in a world of hurt for getting promos videos and removing the water marks and reselling them. A very popular DJ Promo site owned by a certain old school House DJ is doing this and is about to get in serious trouble for it.
Also if you had the great Idea to make video mix DVD's and sell them at Car shows or car audio shops There are people know who's full time is to put you out of business. So good luck with all that.

Is it forbidden to use watermarked videos? Why?
Which company?

You can use them of course to DJ and edit for yourself but if you try to re-sell them in anyway you've broken the law. I already gave enough clues to which company it is. Man seriously Promo Only is Cheap and Easy I don't really understand what all the discussion is about it's a no brainer.

Yeah, of course. What I meant was.... why is it not allowed to use watermarked videos at gigs, like the one dj who got fined?

I think Steel is talking about something like an MTV or VH1 watermark.

Exactly stuff you bought is ok stuff you stole from MTV not cool. Cutting out water marks doesn't fool the companies that put those videos out is all I was saying.

maybe one day they will go full gangsta like the mpaa does with its screener dvd where EACH copy has a traceable watermark embedded that can be traced back to precisely the person the dvd was delivered too.
bootlegs made from screener discs havent gone away completely but they have slowed down a LOT since that watermark technology has been implemented. you can't see it on the screen in any way, it's a watermark, not an on screen bug or logo like mtv, vh1, etc.
by the way, that watermark will survive re-encodes, etc. gangsta!
if that tech ever makes it to promo only, some bootleg illegal video selling sites will not be happy.
