I own the 2 cva-28s and have never had a problem out of them. I also 1 cva-118, and 2 cva-115s. One of the 115s went out at a gig in late January. I took the speaker to a local authorized service center and they still aren't fixed. They've been saying two weeks for 4 months. Thank God I had the other cva-118 for gigs. Cerwin Vega's customer service advised that were bought out by another company (I can't remember who) and was shipping all of their inventory from California to Tennesse(I think). Still waiting for my speaker to be fixed that is still under warranty. They're customer service sucks!

I keep the LPF and HPF at 130hz so that the top doesn't have to work as hard. I start out with the volume at 70% and adjust accordingly as the night progresses.

I have a pair of the cva-28's, great for a restaurant/lounge gigs. Barely any bottom end to speak of, but outstanding sound, and good looks to boot. Paired with the cva-121 they'll pin the ears back of up to 150 people without skipping a beat.

I own both Cva-28s and some Cva 118 subs they are very good the subs are kind off heavy but with a helper your good to go.
Thats weird that your cva 118s limit that fast mines dont and sometimes i put them at like 60%,i bump them loud also.
The heatsink where you using them outside or inside?
I used these subs 8+ hours and they have never let me down

Make sure you check the Master/Slave switch. With the Master you can control the volume on the speaker, with the slave the input controls the volume.

I have my high pass to thru at 130hz so my tops(cva-28) is just getting the high frequencies but at 85hz sounds good too.
and the variable low pass i have it at 65hz.
I usually leave the master on the middle
How about you guys?

Hi guys I have a set of cva28s and one keeps overheating and going into protection for 20 mins before coming back on again. I am getting no flashing red limit light before this happens. But I am getting a couple red flakes from x over and graphics eq. Could it be just driving too much power into them
Is it better getting more volume through increasing the gain on the speaker itself?

Yes, turn up the amp on the speaker to give your system more headroom, allowing you to pull your other components out of the red
