text generation

has anybody suggested this yet? perhaps for a future version? i think that would be pretty keen. just something simple and maybe scrollable or something...for announcements or just calling out the idiot in the middle of the floor or...whatever.

That would be hot. Like a captio scrolling across the screen. I'm sure if that's not possible now it wouldnt take much to figure out. I would clown all my friends on video

Ya i like this, provided there sober enough to read it

+1

.. or your DJ name can pop up..

It would be neat as well, to be able to layer a semi-transparent logo of the club, event, or your own logo over the video.

I like to add a PNG picture "ontop" of output video, and SSL-Video monitorns the file so when I change image in my "image folder" SSL change the image.

This way I can make several images (fullscreen) whith my logo or something else with transparent background and just drop them into the folder, wholla!

If serato make this then it's easy to build a sowtware that do titeling and other cool grafix stuff.

+1. Definately would be a very useful feature.
DJ MDX 4:41 AM - 26 December, 2007
I agree I like this idea...
DJ Lil Vito 4:45 AM - 26 December, 2007
I think this would be an easy request to accomodate since the demo version has a "demo" text overlay. I'd like to be able to upload a transparent .png image and choose it's position on the screen.
dj-jv 3:44 PM - 26 December, 2007
I agree just something like the watermark logo that we have in the beta mode, but smaller top left or right.
DJ Grandpa 5:02 PM - 26 December, 2007
I like to use fullscreen with alpha channel for transparent .png.

Then you just create a 800x600 image with transparent background (if you have that as size on the video window) and place your text or logo where ever you like on that 800x600 surface, then save as png.
DJ AVENUE 5:10 AM - 27 December, 2007
cheers to this idea.
Dj Silver Glass 7:38 PM - 27 December, 2007
Love the idea i already use it on another crappy program I use.

one thing it needs----- SPELL CHECK. i can't spell for shhhh lol
djsteel 10:39 AM - 28 December, 2007
VDJ already has that feature its pretty cool. Should be hard for Serato to do it too.
DJ Grandpa 3:13 PM - 28 December, 2007
It's not hard to do, The "DEMO picture" proberly uses what they need. Just all a functions to watch a folder (or specified file) for changes and when changed just put it on the scrren ontop (as the demo picture).

I already began programing a simple application where you can typ in text that generates a png image. (PC and Mac).

While the idea is reasonably simple we don't do things halfway and there are a lot of user interface concerns with this sort of feature. When we have thought it through thoroughly we'll work on it. You can be sure it something we have been thinking about for a while...
DJ AVENUE 11:48 PM - 2 January, 2008
Always good to hear news like this. thanks guys at serato..
DJ Czar 6:11 AM - 4 January, 2008
One of the best uses for this would be to insert the lower third artist credits at your own will. Hard coded lower thirds (you know, the text in the bottom left corner with the usual Artist, Song, Album, and annoying name of company who serviced you the video) are okay for general playback, but when video is being manipulated, scratched, juggled, etc, having the text pop up EVERY time is very annoying and takes away from the performance. Companies like Promo Only claim that the labels force them to add these to the video, and while that may be true, I think it should be at the discretion of the DJ, not the content provider. After all, you don't hear "for promotional use only" audio drops booming all over your promo singles, do you? ;)
