Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

Output to Resolume 4 Possible?

dj NiCk DiCk 7:29 AM - 9 April, 2012
Would it be possible to output the video from Serato Video with Itch to Resolume 4 (or Arena 4)? I want to use it as one of the inputs on Resolume so I could play the music video when their is one, or have Resolume effects controlled by mu VJ when their isn't one.

Not on the same computer with Serato Video at this time.

MixEmergency features Syphon so you can feed both decks or the mix output into a program like Resolume, but you really need a hella powerful Mac to be able to do that at highest quality.

Hmm, ok. Thanks for the answer!

Would it be possible to output to another computer that was running Arena 4?

Yes but you need a video input card todo it and that computer will need to be bad ass in order for it to handle a hi quality signal in and back out again... Also you will get lag (delay( in the video so the videos will not line up with whats playing... Again if you use ME you can set the video to play faster and then maybe get them to line up on time that way... I think the feature is called delay compensation.... Another one of those things serato Video or Video SL should have had long ago, but good old ME had it 1st.

Nick, this is doable with Syphon through Mix Emergency Only. No way to send it from VSL or SV. Yes, Delay Compensation will help especially adding a 3rd video processing program.

I run this setup every night one 1 laptop and have no problems & use 12 layers

Serato --> Mix Emergency --> Arena 4 --> Master Output

Feel free to reach out to me for any questions

I run mine like this:
Serato --> Mix Emergency --> MadMapper --> Master Output

And i dont need to touch the delay compensation. But its nice to have just in case.
Dj Nyce 6:08 PM - 26 April, 2012
i've used Serato ->ME->Modul8->Master Output

all one late 2011 17 mbp. i do not need to run delay compensation.

and just for shits and giggles i ran the macbook pro out via hdmi to a blackmagic intensity shuttle and into resolume. i did not have to use delay compensation.

Hey DJ nyce. on the black magic card i got a question. I want to get one but if it uses up my thunderbolt out and has no TB pass though can i output my video program of my choosing (ME, MadMapper, GrandVJ) though the output on the Black magic card?
DJMisterE 7:31 PM - 26 April, 2012
No you cannot. Crush and I looking into this over a month ago and I asked Blackmagic about it in Las Vegas last week at NAB.

You need 2 TB ports on your MBP or a Hub before the BM

WTF is the point of having an HDMI out on the BM cards then! fucking useless!

and to boot theres only 1 mac with 2 TB ports and a TB hub dose not exist yet!

Is if i want to use a BM card for video input into a VJ program like Modul8 or Grand VJ you cant output the video in any way? is there a way you know how todo this?

Solution is coming, but yes it's still a bit unpractical at this point
Dj Nyce 8:02 PM - 26 April, 2012
you could get a external HD with 2 thunderbolt ports. then you can daisy chain. the blackmagic would have to be last in the chain tho.

the one i have is the shuttle (usb 3.0) so thunderbolt isn't an issue for me. besides i'm not jumping onboard with thunderbolt. $50 for a cable? apple and intel can kiss my ass.
DJMisterE 8:23 PM - 26 April, 2012
Nope. Daisy chain works for DATA only not Video Output. You need an actual Hub not a hard drive with 2 TB ports. And we don't even know if the Hub will work since we're waiting for one to show up

I know all about that device. It is NOT a hub for multiple thunderbolt outs! it adds 3 USBs eithernet and firewire. that wont turn the TB on my mac into 2 TB ports.

No i cant. A HD with 2 tunderbolt ports requires 1 for the HD to the mac and the 2nd on is the pass though where the black magic card plugs into. Still no way to make that work.

Are you running your black magic card on a PC or a mac?

better belkin video

Dj Nyce 12:22 AM - 27 April, 2012
damn. i thought the whole point of daisy chaining was so that you could do something like this. apple is fucking up.
DJMisterE 12:23 AM - 27 April, 2012
gonna order one of the Belkin's It says you can run in and out and use HDMI either direction.
Code:E 12:25 AM - 27 April, 2012
well if you use apple monitors you can daisy chain 4 together. But again you need a In and out on the Thunderbolt device Current all TB to VGA (or DVI or HDMI) have no pass though they are only cable ends and must come at the end of the chain. Which it what is pissing me off about the \black magic cards. Why is there not pass though? thats all we would need to make this work.

that looks mad useful. if any of you guys get it please post back up here on how it's working.

Now if i buy that (belkin box) and output the ME video out the HDMI in on that box and dasiy chain in the Black Magic card i might be able to get this to work. But i'm still unsure. I dont want to have to buy a 27inch iMac.
DJMisterE 2:03 AM - 27 April, 2012
I have the Black Magic and the pass through DOES NOT Work. I'll let you know once I test out the Belkin

MisterE so you have mac>external w/2 thunderbolt Ports>Intensity pro/extreme

and the mac doesn't see the pro/extreme?
DJMisterE 2:39 AM - 27 April, 2012
correct
Dj Nyce 2:50 AM - 27 April, 2012
another thunderbolt fail
