hi...
i've been using SSL for a year now and love it. i have a new macbook core duo with 2gb ram. i'm thinking of buying the 57 but i dont know enough about it and what it can do to buy it yet.
is it worth the money? what special features can it do? etc...
i was really interested in the fact that you can record your mixes with it - are the recordings good enough to put out as a mixtape and how do u edit those recordings once they're done??
all help is really appreciated. thankyou.
ps - sorry if some of these questions seem basic, but i really am unfamiliar wiht the 57 and what it can do.

The sound quality of the recordings are pretty damn good. Once you get your levels right you really don't need to edit them at all (except maybe add some drops and trim the start/finish of the recording).
As far as features, it would take forever to list them all.
main ones I like:
+ Built in FX
+ Not having to touch my laptop - scroll tracks/crates, load songs, jump to cues, etc etc
+ Kill buttons - when I first got the mixer I didn't see a use for them but now I use them all the time to kill the low's and sometimes the highs.
man screw this, to many to list and I am lazy. Someone else list them
sorry.

.AIFF i believe.
If it's just a random mixtape for myself or for public downloads I usually don't edit it at all. If it's an actual demo that I will be sending out then I use Cool Edit Pro to edit it.

After a long argument with the company i got it from, i just got mine yesterday, havent done much with it yet, but feature wise, it is a beast from what i saw last nite. Its pricey tho, I say try to use a friends for a day or even borrow one, to get the feel, get the manual as well with ur own comp and play around with the many functions.
(I find it really annoying when im trying to evaluate something or see how to do something, and there is somebody in the background trying to teach me how to use it, it interrupts my flow, stunts my learning curve.)

yeah when I first got the mixer there were too many features. I was like holy crap!!! so I just used it as a basic 2 channel mixer and as I slowly became more comfortable with it started implementing more of it's features. I'm getting to the point where I don't have to double think a lot of the stuff now and it's sooooooo nice.

the TTM57SL is by far the best all around Integrated DVS. I would recommend getting it if you can. I bought my TTM57SL for about $900 delivered, brand new.
I still own Traktor and for performance and ease of use, the Rane solution is by far the best as far as integrated and minimum equipment setup.
Traktor is the best for mixing and yes scratching.

no, the 57 is the 57, but you can upgrade your mixer. when serato has new effects or something like this for the mixer, the software will contain a firmwareupgrade.
