forgive the newbish q but what is the best raw format to use in editing in final cut pro so you don't have to render video each time you move it?
2 examples, a vob extracted from dvd source, or say some xvid compressed 174mb random tv show
i've been trying to find a definitive answer thru google but it's always crusty old final cut forum pros talkmbowt importing HD video off a camera into DV
any takers? and thank you kindly in advance..

If you're having to deinterlace from the VOB's (for stuff that can't be IVTC'ed) be sure to use ProRes 4444, not 442.
That will prevent interlacing "chroma ghosts" (especially noticeable on reds).

The difference between ProRes 4444 and 422 is the color space... how exactly does it prevent interlacing "chroma ghosts?'

It has something to do with the chroma resolution...it's higher with 4444.
I don't know all the technical details, but I do know that switching to 4444 fixed what had been a frustrating problem.
