Dell Vostro 1700 17" Laptop
Win XP Pro
Intel Core2Duo 2ghz T7300
4GB RAM (I know XP doesn't use all of it)
NVIDIA 8600GT 256MB
1920 x 1280 display
2 Internal Sata hard drives.
Using H.264/MP4's rendered from Sony Vegas (Main Concept) @ 720x544 1.0 pixel aspect ratio. 2mbps VBR (3mbps Max), 320AAC. Average file size is 65MB.
Performance is great in XP. I tried the same files in Vista (dual boot) and it was a little choppy and had flickering video. I had some issues with cue points and overviews not saving, but I believe this is a bug with video files on a different drive than your system drive. I moved those files to my system drive and I didn't have those problems with saving cue points and overviews.

So you can recomend Dell Vostro 1700 (as ytour config)? I was thinking of "crossing the line / convert" and go for a MacBook Pro, but the price is double..!

sure, so far so good in XP. i guess i would recommend it then. just to warn you, it's not a small laptop. it's a beast in size and weight, but it stays really cool. the nvidia 8600gt video card it has is the exact same as the macbook pros.
i would like to hear from the people that have success with other pc laptops, especially with ATI video cards. i actually still have my dell e1505 that has an x1400 video card, i might install the video plugin on that and see if it works for that machine. i'm sure it will since that same laptop use to run VDJ for me in the past.

Yes I know it's a big one. But the Vastro 1500 can be configured with "256 MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT" only differens I asume is you have room for two harddrives and that the 1500 only is sold with 160Gb disk 5400 or 7200 rpm
Then the XPS 1530 have 8600M GT, but 250GB disc for "same" money (at least here in Sweden)

I just sold my hp dv9205 and picked up a XPS 1530. Thing is a beast, comes with 3gig's of DDR 667Mhz ram.

dvddecrypter works fine for me, there's a ton of tools you can use for that.
