Video output quirks - MiniDisplay to VGA

popnwave 11:56 PM - 28 March, 2012
Just wanted to know if anyone else has come across things like this:

In the club I have to make sure I plug in the MiniDisplay Port adapter before either USB line or it does't want to register on my MacBook Pro and output the signal correctly.

At home on my plasma, I can't get my TV to detect the signal unless I switch the MacBook Pro to internal graphic mode (aka discreet off). This either a direct VGA line or going through my monoprice VGA to Composite out.

Here is the current rig:

MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2009
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)

Definitely ounds like a hardware issue.

I'd try another MDP to VGA adaptor first, just to be sure, but otherwise it's possible that the dedicated GPU is on the way out.

If I was you I'd get to an Apple Store ASAP.

For giggles I stopped gfxcardstatus and then unplugged/replugged it in and boom it loaded right away.. Kinda odd

And @phatbob yeah I actually ordered another adapter the first time I noticed it, and the new one does it too. When it works it is rock solid. I think something may be going astray with the way gfxcardstatus was working with 10.7.2. I'll tinker with it some more tonight.

Trying to go crazy with ME 2.0 before the club tomorrow :) Picked up a HC1000s to supplement my DJM-800 for bringing up cue points a little easier.

Cool.

gfxcardstatus says their 2.1 version works with Lion but nothing about 10.7.2.

Reckon you might have found the culprit.
