Go nuts will not work for everyone and Visual Hub isn't the best converter. Magic Video Converter is better, but I know there are better ones then that. When Converting your Videos here are some good tips.
You are shooting for the Highest Quality Video files with the lowest File size. The best I've found are AVI's but the way i convert isn't supported on Serato video yet. The best i've found for Serato Video on Visual Hub is as follows:
Keyframes 20 - 25 Set to Mp4 on Standard and H.264 checked. Screen Size set to 720 x 480 These setting when converting from a Promo Only DVD's Vob. File work and look very good. I'm using a 1.83 macbook Pro 2 gb ram 128 dedicated video card.
If anyone needs help with Video let me know I've been doing Video with Promo Only and Pioneer for a long time now. I also have a VDJ system as well.

converting 720x480 mp4....you will get black bars on the side of the video. did u not have this problem with vdj?
I've tried it in the past but always came across this problem. The highest resolution i could get with a mp4 is 620 x 640.
lets brainstorm...i personally would rather convert @ 720x480

It's important to remember the pixels on a DVD aren't square. If you use handbrake you can it will include the aspect ratio in the mp4 file. That way VSL will output at the correct aspect and you won't have black bars at the sides.

well forget what sl will do as a finak....just the "file" it self. i've tried different ratios etc. I have never got a 720x480 mp4 file. I mean u can render one....but when you look at the file u see black bars on the side.

Magic Video Converter is for Windows... Didn't want to have to use parallels or fusion to convert video.
Thanks for the tips on the DVD Vobs.
I am converting my current AVI collection over to MP4 with Visual Hub and the files look the same with less pixelation on fast motion.

Yeah Visual Hub works good. I have both mac and PC, sorry about that. I've never ever ever had black bars so i don't kow why you are having that problem.

so to get 720x480 just make sure the ratio is square pixel. This makes it possible to render 720x480 mp4 videos without the black bars.

Hey guys . I use Visual Hub ( Full version ) . After about 20-30 conversions I get this message " can't make into type number (-1700) " . It then stops the batch converting . What does it mean and how do I fix it ?

You better DEINTERLACE and change your KEYFRAMES or you will sorry. Trust me I converted 4,000 videos with the settings you mentioned above and ended up re-doing everything.

if you encode 720x480 with square pixels you'll most likely have a jacked up encode. DVD have 720x480 pixels with 4:3 aspect ration (promo only). So if you encode a promo only DVD and keep the 720x480 dimensions, then you can't use square pixels. You'll need to do 720x480 with 4:3 aspect. If you want to use square pixels, encode those 720x480 DVD VOB at 640x480. That will work.

Also, visual hub "go nuts" quality will only work on the fastest systems. Slower system will most certainly have near 100% CPU decoding two of these at the same time with VSL.

Mp4 2.h64 encoding at Standard and DEINTERLACE checked Keyframes matter to some people but it seems to put enough in on it's own.

When converting your videos and the videos are done when you view them do you ever see horizontal lines running through your videos? Thats what Deinterlace does. It gets rid of those lines.

Yes I did follow djsteel's instruction's , which were very clear and easy to follow I might add , but still have this problem . The video conversion's come out very good , but it's just that I need to reload every 30 or so video's .

I've gotten the same message at 125 conversions twice and again after 30 or so. Had to close the program and restart from where it left off.

Yeah it just happens for some reason. Sometimes I would get away with converting 400 videos in a row, sometimes only like 10 and I would get that error. I couldn't figure out why it was happening. I was pissed a few times when I set it up to encode over night and it only got a few done. I just close and restart the program and reload the batch where I left off.

answer: sometimes the solution to this issue will be fix if you rename the file shorter or remove any character which are not letter or numbers.

I've got it guy's ( well in my circumstance atleast ) . The problem I had was I had all my files saved on the external and it (Visual Hub) was only doing 30 or so at a time . So I moved them from the external to the laptop hard drive and Bingo .... 100 files later and still going strong . I suspect the external's reset themselve's somehow after a certain amount of time and that upset's V-Hub . I don't no if this is the same scenario for everyone but it's solved my problem . Much happier now . Also , just a quick mention to a-swift , your post's are awesome and very helpful - Chur bro ..

What you're probably experiencing is that the external is going to sleep.

Also, I've been doing about 40 videos at a time cause that's what each Promo Only DVD comes with (+ or - 5 videos). No problems here.
I do rename each vob before converting though.
